Some advertising I received about lighting to make your home attractive (solar lights aimed at the house and from behind bushes got me thinking about security and if yard lights would be a good security idea or a kind of magnet that draws problems in?
Lights, lots of lights, varied lots of lights, motion lights the cows turn on, little motion lights that the cats turn on, lights the wind turns on. I like lights and cameras.
It's a double edged sword. If you have light you can see-if you have light "they" know someone is there and may have stuff worth taking.. I have this placed wired like Times square on New Years-when I want. I want it now, and shortly after SHTF. After that(your judgement) the lights should go out. Look just like every other place. If "they" cross the line and trigger lights and "other things" game on. Point of no return. Honestly everybody around here knows what I do. They also know I have no problem shooting anyone found here after dark. The sheriff and several brothas can attest to that. So I'm not really hiding anything on the surface. By that I mean I am a target because of what I have and what I do. That being said, LEO's and locals want to keep my arse around and have said so. No one but Sass (and even her to a point) know everything I have in place for defences. I have spent a shitload of $$ to prep this place and the fallback place.
Every secure facility I have worked at after dark had the lights shining on the building from the yard. Just sayin'
Aim the way you want to shoot and don't get back lit aka sky lit. Since we do not have a security force standing by on the outer perimeter.
I am of the opinion that if SHTF and everybody is dark.....so am I. I intend on blending in like everybody else and not showing I have anything they might be interested in. On the other side of the coin, I have a bunch of solar yard lights that will get re-positioned for areas of approach, to provide some lighting for observation of movements....and such.
Using solar motion lights in a mobile array really messes with the heads of cats, canines and two legged varmints. Place them in the shadows and watch as the varmints get caught by the invisible lights. Left on trails you can follow the actions of an intruder.
Are there any reliable battery powered remote sensors that wirelessly transmit a signal? I have a couple of Radio Shack variety remote intrusion detectors that send an audible alarm when the IR beam is broken. I use them to warn when someone is prowling my guest house, about 200 yards from my home. It would be nice to have an affordable means of area warning on a grid.
I have been using a Dakota Alert setup that would work fine for you. It uses an IR sensor that detects up to 50 feet away and my setup from detector to receiver is 300 yards apart. Remember the old square camera flash bulbs that had a flash on each side and would spin at each click of the trigger. I remember when my Uncle got of the Marine Corps , and back from Vietnam .We would go hunting and camping back in the swamps . While out camping at night ,he taught me how to rig those flash bulbs to a battery and trip wire from 4 different directions . This was about '69-'70 . I thought it was cool as hell , he more than likely thought it was a way of survival . Point being ,, lights , solar , motion , etc , can also be used to direct the traffic to where you want them to go .
