I was reading something about people being polled on knowing who leaders of communist countries were. Most people didn't have a clue about who Mao Tse-Tung was. History is being rewritten and some of it erased. Strange world we live in. If you ask people about things actually happened in history you get blank looks.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

    Happens here all the time.

The Gub'ment Skuels redact a lot of American History.

What they don't teach is pre-forgotten with 100% efficiency.

In three generations, the only people who will be aware of how much of our history has been erased will be the ones that are able to read the contraband History books from before the Time of Correction.

Which will be almost no one because almost everyone will have been educated in Gub'ment Sluels, and will thus be entirely unable to read.

I have Seen the Future, and it is Dumbed Down.

I was not a good school student. Just couldn’t stand sitting in a chair listening to a teacher talking about stuff I had absolutely no interest in , for 6-8 hours a day. And I do not claim to know a lot of what I should know from school from the 60s and 70s. But what completely amazes me is how much I actually know from history class back then, that these kids today never heard of. That is rock solid proof that our schools have changed their curriculum. If it has to do with school learning ,, and I know it ,, then I figured everyone knew it. I never imagined I would know more about School subjects than someone else.

I think it's less a case of revision that it is of just not teaching the subject. Seems like spending more time on sensitivity and diversity training than history (or math, or English as a first (or second language)) makes snowflake sense.

I love the immediate modification of history we now see. Hours of TV on black protest marches about some black shot by a black policeman, but the Sri Lanka attacks on Christians, blowing up people in church on Easter Sunday, is ignored, blamed as a reaction to the New Zealand mosque shootings and thus they deserved it, or down played as part of the civil war going on in Sri Lanka. No sense of out rage and no days of coverage like the New Zealand attacks. Goebels is alive and well and works for NBC, or at least his spirit does. History is like death, as Stalin put it, when one man dies, it is tragic, when thousands die, its statistics. Thus we see many hours on the evils of slavery in our past, but nothing on the building of the railroads that changed a trip from Saint Louis to San Fransisco from months of dangerous travel to days in relative comfort, or any of the other things that have modified our lives so greatly.

They don't teach cursive anymore so none of the new generation will be able to read the original founding documents - gee can't see how that could possible go wrong.

Copperplate is over rated.....millennials can always read the US declaration of independence in comic sans serif.....

Edit: Actually, you make a valid point....they don't teach ancient Hebrew script and ancient Greek script any more so few of the new generation and many of the more recent preceding generations are not able to read their faith's founding scriptures in their original scripts - gee can't possibly see how that could go wrong.;)

Modern software allows removal or creation of political images - like this one of Obama in a Russian uniform

So the history you read may be more fake than many realize....

With everything on computers and the internet changing or deleting history will be just like 1984, Fahrenheit 451 or even that Woody Allen movie where the head Historian was upset because they had accidentally erased the entire 12th Century. Just a push of a button, and people, wars, movements, etc. are gone!

Not necessarily.....depends whether it flops or not....if it becomes a cash cow, expect a franchise of EG2, EG3, etc....cast Bruce Willis or Sylvester Stallone....more like Endgame 15 or 20 ;)

I think that is a reflection of people not being as widely read as was perhaps the case in the past when reading whole books was more the norm...reading habits and preferences have changed, though, on the up side, for an enquiring mind, searching and access to information has improved, increased almost exponentially...though for some, twitter is as much as some can manage, in the field of communicating, and reading...

Given that CCR's first release vinyl heyday was some 30 years before the 14 year old lass was born...it is perhaps not surprising, unless she listens to dinosaur music on her granny's 33 1/3 rpm record player. I'm doubtful that many young 14 year olds of the mid 60's would have had any different an expression on their face when asked about Nick Lucas, or Helen Kane...to those who have never heard of Nick Lucas or Helen Kane, check their signature tunes out. ;)

An underrated skill....though the technique is more successful at preventing pregnancies and STIs when effectively placed on an erect human male reproductive appendage. ;)

    Yep....[IMG]

I hate to break it to you, but changing and deleting history has been going on for millenia....back in the day it was by burning books, and burning those who wrote them, and those who read them...(the smell of BBQ heretic is most pleasing to god). Gnostics and Cathars anyone???

Many ancient pagan manuscripts were destroyed by enthusiastic early church Christian clerics and laity; and what remnants survived of early Greek pagan works come to us via Muslim scholars, and a renewed interest in the ancients during the course of the Renaissance.

Historical revisionism and negationism are ancient traditions, proudly practiced by some to this very day....and just as likely to continue into the future. An enquiring, and skeptical mind is useful, as well as a penchant for fact checking.

There are two kinds of history, and none of them can be fully trusted:
    1. one you see through your own eyes and experience yourself. This history is clouded by your own emotions, expectations, and imperfections of recollection (as evidenced by crime witnesses remembering the same event differently). This is the history you can trust the most, but even though you were there you can't trust it completely. Ever been to a magic show?

    2. History given to you by others. All history that gets disseminated was created with a particular viewpoint and agenda. Had the Axis won World War 2 do you think the histories of that war would be the same as they are today? Would the accepted heroes be villains and war criminals today?

Today History is manufactured and planned ahead of time to meet an agenda. It happens so often we don't even stop to challenge it much any more. Here is an example I recently pulled up:

A picture of the crowd taken at President Trump's inauguration:

Strangely, you never saw anything like this in US mainstream media. Instead you saw this that shows the Trump crowd taken about two hours before the inauguration contrasted with President Obama crowd taken at it's peak. You can see the time difference by comparing the shadows of the Smithsonian building:

I'm not using this example to boost Trump, but rather to show that we can't trust the validity of anything considered news or history. History will record the "low" Trump turnout even though it's a blatant lie that took the cooperation of all the major news outlets.

What else are they manufacturing as I write this?
