Locally this SUV took a direct lighting strike,As you can see the damage from smoldering electronics. The people inside bailed and took shelter under an overpass. The SUV was DOA....
This is what happens when ya load the crap out of cars with gadgets and electronics, what did they think would happen when they made the car into a lightning rod?
Better to have a totaled car than to try to fix one after a milder lightning strike. Working on lightning strike electrical gremlins makes old British car electronics seem like fun.
Gunna take a lot of bondo and duct tape to get that back on the road. They might even have to break out the JB Iron Weld.
Saw a F-111 take a direct strike while taxing for a mission, didn't even flinch, kept on running all the way to the hanger for a full inspection, not even a tripped circuit breaker! I would think a car would be able to take a hit, especially being grounded. The one in the OP must have has some non OEM extras!
What “Grounded” are you talking about?.. This vehicle sat on 4 Rubber Tires, and I haven’t seen a Vehicle Drag Ground Strap in 60 Years... So just how is this vehicle Grounded? Now, certainly a Lightning Strike possess the Voltage to bridge the distance between the Vehicle Frame and the Ground in slightly Ionized Air, but that is NOT Grounded.... That is a High Impedance Air Gap, and certainly NOT Grounded...
Saw an old Chrysler take a hit on I-49,Killed it dead in the left lane resulting in 2 deaths from the chain reaction wreck.
