Picked up 2 more 5gal gas cans last night, filled them up and added the stabil. That give me 25 gal of gas at the house. Enough to fill the van up if needed.

Also picked up some synthetic oil, 2 extra air filters, and 2 extra spark plugs for the genny.

I distributed all my reserve supplies to the needy around Mobile, now I only have about three days supplies on hand. I gave all my ammunition to the local firing range to hand out to police officers to help them learn to shoot better. My firearms were traded for tennis shoes at several gun buy-backs around the country. Now I am unarmed and ready to apply for social aid, soon as the democrats get Hillary elected.[own2]

Nope, must be all this mutton I've been eating over here...baaaaa. Hillary is actually kinda cute and I have it on good faith that she is going to screw all of us; can't wait. Who needs guns anyway, except the national police forces? It's not like hunting is essential any more. I'll call 911 if I need help, soon as they start putting 11s on the dial.

Well, it wasn't this week, but very recently I picked up my Glock G22, and yesterday I got a Charter Arms Undercover .38spl revolver for $100.00. Very good condition on the CA and comes with the original box and warranty card LOL.

Over the weekend I loaded up 250 rounds of .40S&W FMJ and 50 rnds of HP, and for the 9mm I did 150 rounds of fmj.

Laid in 180 gallons of emergency drinking water and 1000 .45 FMJ bullets. Astounding, $172 for the bullets, shooting the .45 is now going to cost about a quarter to pull the trigger!

I'll join the thread, but I'm way behind you guys. I just started stocking up this week.

We put up a couple 8 packs of TP, a couple rolls of paper towels, huge stack of paper plates, several big cans of Dinty More, a couple big cans of fruit, several cans of vegies, can opener, feminine products and a bag of dog food that will last the pooch about a month. All in all, the food would last about a week.

Forgot that we put up a case of water. Still trying to figure out the best way of stocking up on water, so bottles will have to do for now.

Fritz, dont feel bad. We're all way behind somebody as far as our preps but if you have a few days of extra food and a couple gallons of water in the house and maybe a first aid kit you and most importantly the recognition of a need to be prepaired for the unexpected then you are already miles ahead of the vast majority of people.

I got in another 300 rnds of .223 M855 FMJ.

Fritz, welcome to the monkey, and like MM said, since you've started you're way ahead of the game already.

Thanks guys/gals. I'm not overly stressed about it, mainly because I feel that any situation that happens will be of the less than a month variety. However, I do want to get to the point where I will have 6 months or more food.

I also gathered up some basic tools. Put in a pocket knife, screw drivers, adjustable wrenches. I also took a look at the single burner stoves I have in the house. I'll have to get some fuel for them, though. Anyone know how long a can of Coleman white gas is good for, unopened on the shelf?

    Will last over 12-15 years.
After a few years in a hot garage it starts to stink a bit when you open it... But it burns just fine. I don't think it starts to separate like gasoline.

Looks like you are off to a good start FM. Realization that you are in need of a few things puts you in the top 25% of the population.

Fritz, if your thinking in terms of wide spread situations then you are more than likely right that at least the worst would have passed and a crawl back out should be started within a couple months at most (like Katrina, the WORST was over in about 6-8 weeks but theres still a good ways to go to full recovery) but IMHO the MOST likely situations for any of us to face are the SHTF on a personal level. This can come in a lot of forms but one of the easiest to realize would be say if you and your wife were in a car acident and both busted a leg. At least in the vast majority of occupations, that means you both are out of work for 6-8 weeks waiting for the bone to heal and the cast to come off. It could also be that your jobs go over seas or what ever but a loss of income thats unexpected and cant be imediately remedied is the MOST common form of a SHTF situation for any of us to face reguardless of the reason and can easily last longer than the 1 month. I would say that the 6 months would most likely cover most of these situations AND the 1 month of surplus would make it a LOT easier than none. I just bring it up because I know a lot of folks in general and especialy when starting out on preping tend to think just in terms of wide spread kaos where everyone is in that type of situation (I know I did and still have to check myself on that at times) and while those situations CAN happen the most likely is at the smallest level (personal) and IMO becomes less likely the larger or more wide spread the senarioone is considering.

    Just a thought.
