Rusty exhaust bolts are always best removed with a limited use of heat and torque after soaking for a few days with a penetrating oil.

When I was an apprentice oh about 50 years ago, that was one of the apprentice jobs. Making never seize for the various trades and the machine shop. If it was for high temp use we cut in some gear oil. We made it usually with cutting oil and fine flake graphite.
Mixed by hand into a gooey paste.

For my next trick, i have a 1932 Imperial with inline 8 that needs some serious SERIOUS love. It turns and is no where as nasty as the hemi was, but its also way older! The car its self is super rare and is in rough shape with some serious damage to the rear end, but with love and care and patience, should be something quite special some day!

Oh man I hope your kidding about the Topolino. Even the truck for that matter. My vote is a 68 Charger. Better yet the 68 Daytona.

OLD 1958 Hemi, not New "B" series from 1962 on!

If I were installing it in a boat it would be in a Sanger v-drive flatty river racer. But I'm just weird that way.

Buddy had a bright yellow one in high school, had the 354 Hemi in it and castle V-Drive! That was one fast boat, and scary as hell! He basically bought the nice trailer and got the boat project for nothing! Took a year and a half to get it running and in the water, boy was that fun! Did I say it was scary as hell? We got it up to about 120 on Foster Lake and some dude in a pickle fork with a pair of Merc V-8's went flying by us like we were standing still! Skipping across the water was fun till about 60, then it got iffy! Couldn't tell you how many noise tickets we got in that boat!

If you go fast enough, you can't hear anything!

And on topic, stuck bolts are a pain, broken bolts are a nightmare. All the suggestions so far seem to cover every method I've ever heard to get them out. Easy-outs, penetrating oil (atf/diesel) & some serious hammer action always worked for my uncles. But they do require a heck-of-a-lot-a busted knuckles and cussing to really work right. The more creative the language the faster things happen. :D

there are several You Tubes on welding a nut on the broken bolt then removing it while still hot, I was researching this to remove a broken exhaust stud, its worth a look.

stick welder comes in damn handy heating up that bolt - without an open flame involved .....

  18. Referencing Byte's #53 above. What is everyone's favorite "verbal" assistance when working on stuck/broken fasteners? Don't get explicit just enough to get the meaning. I'm not very inventive so maybe that's why I broke off a-lot of'em.

  20. Re: Fedorthedog's post #55 above. I think I would wait for the broken fastener to cool. Dad said heating it would cause the bolt/stud to expand crushing the corrosion and loosening the threads enough to allow easier removal after it cooled.
