Found this interesting video on how to really pack a carry on. Well worth the time to watch all the way thru. I've lived out of a suitcase for months at a time, and this method of packing just makes more sense that the way I pack. Now I rarely go more than 2 weeks at a time. Of course, all of our destinations have had laundry facilities. If I had only known.....
I've been packing my suitcases like that for about 25 years - the instructions came with a Samsonite suitcase I'd bought for a trip. His order is wrong, though, do the shirts first then the pants. It will minimize the wrinkles in the shirts when you unpack. I also pack socks inside the spare shoes to use up that available space as well. I unpack immediately when I get to my room. When I shower I hang the clothes I'm going to wear that day in the bathroom so they get a steaming to remove any wrinkles. Nothing goes in drawers anymore unless it's in ziplock bags because there are enough people lacking hygiene and couth that it's easy to bring something back unwanted. He also dodn't include enough underwear or socks, IMO. I always travel with a small sewing kit and some laundry detergent double freezer bagged and a travel size shout (also bagged). Obviously I'd skip those two if the bag wasn't going to be checked or if I wasn't traveling by air.
VAC bag every thing after packing like that, you would be really surprised how much more you can squeeze in! Do shirts first in their own bag, then pants, and then undies! They make a small hand pump that you can use to re pack for the return trip! Also, pick light weight, thin athletic clothing where needed, it usually takes less space and is also lighter weight! Good for when the friggin airlines charge by luggage weight!
The last time my carry on luggage was weighed the aircraft had the name "Beaver" on the side....with floats..
We get those out here on occasion when our “ Road that Airplanes land on” is closed due to snow depth... Only ours are Anphibs...Great Planes, but much better when they have the Turbine conversion... ie Super Beaver....
Use "float plane crash alaska" for a search string sometime. I don't fly with the little guys anymore Flew to Craig from Ketchikan on a 121 outfit. Float Beaver. We get into the airplane and the guy lights it up and off we go. No mag check, no check of the sumps for water - on and on. After we landed, I asked the 'pilot' why no checks. His answer - "I did all that yesterday" Called the owning company and said I would not fly back with this idiot. A week later, same guy, same plane, wadded it in at Craig. .Killed 5. I don't fly little guys anymore.
Floats! 5500 holes filled with rivets! Only float flyin I Do Is me the pilot and my own aeroplane! Did get to right seat a Beaver once during my float training, nice, but HEAVY!
