Does anybody watch those old western movies just to look for old guns? I’ve been hunting for one those six shooters that shoot all day on one loading. When a sheriff shoots someone with a double barrel shotgun and there’s no blood, makes you wonder.
I found some odd ones in my junk drawer. Not likely to find this at Walmart. Belted magnums are 6.5mm Remington Magnum, and .224 Weatherby Magnum. (with bullet) .22 Remington Jet could be necked down from .357 Magnum. Then there's the little .32 S&W. I'd convert .32 S&W Long to .38 S&W. Still have some .38 S&W Long left from when it was an alternative ammo for the Nagant revolver.
I nearly bought a .224 Weatherby when I was a teenager, just to be different from the .22/250 and .220Swift crowd I hung around with. In the end a Sako AII in 22/250 won my heart, I still have it ...
The .357 mag was also necked down to make the .256 mag,I wish I had kelp some .256ammo. The last box I saw was way over$100.00 .
While we have access to the internet, there may be some cartridge manufacturer elsewhere in the World that has correctly head stamped .256 Magnum brass available. A local custom ammo guy was finding that even with the expense of shipping from overseas, it was profitable to get some odd virgin brass cartridges from Australia. After the power goes off, the case conversion manual and your own talent in using/modifying existing dies to accomplish a resizing operation(s) are all you have for the odd stuff. Stacking components and brass deep while you can find/afford it will keep these old cartridges enjoyable as we become as obsolete as they are.
.... Bertram Bullet Co brass I would guess. They have kept lots of odball calibres in use for many many years !!!!
That's the guys! I just visited their website and the only really old cartridge currently in production is .348 Winchester, but it's the parent cartridge for bunches of other large base cartridge conversions from 100 years ago. (8x50mmR Lebel and 11x59mmR Gras for me.)
That is the US importer’s website I believe. Bertram does not actually have one (very very old school). I see them at gunshowe and such here and they have lots that do not show on the US importer’s site.
