I still use the concrete block burn pit my late Dad built decades ago. Has a sliding door in front for easy shoveling out of ash residue.

At the ham radio club house they have a set up something like this. More smoke comes out in the room than up the chimney until the fire gets burning hot enough to warm the chimney up. Draft doesn't seem to work right on the stove.

Ever over whelm a funnel .
Barrel stoves like that are not for burning big logs fast , they are for making small fires burn more efficiently .

where I grew up people had Incinerators made of cement or with fire brick ,but intended to consume every thing.
The stood about 4-5feet tall and square at the base and an ash catch at the base and an iron grate the debris was laid on through an iron door . some had a chimney some did not . all required a screen to arrest sparks and were usually strictly maintained .the
ash was thrown in the garden and or in steel buckets that got wet down . of course most people then were well acquainted with fire .
As the went by kids did not learn about fire much and when they did mess with an incinerator it often lead to disaster , both this and environmental issues out lawed their use .
We have far more trash than we did when I was a kid, at least to me it seems .
And the trash company certainly seems to have hooks in the issue as well .
During the winter months I use the wood stove to consume the paper trash ,and put the plastic trash in the recycling .

I've got an outdoor wood boiler, it heats two homes, takes about a wheelbarrow full of wood daily in normal winter weather. In colder (extreme) weather, might use two of those wheelbarrows. It says right on it things, trash, oil, plastic, etc., not to burn in it. I do, however, on occasion throw some cardboard boxes into it. Never intended for burning anything made with plastic. I kinda think plastic is one of the main reasons local communities cracked down on folks burning their trash in the back yard. I burn anything with a mailing address or other personal information on it, but most of the rest goes to the landfill.

They're a right good bit better than the ones I've seen before. Not been to a pole dancin' studio in quite a while. I might need to go by and check one out just to see if they've upgraded their techniques . :D
