I like the .22 Mag, but I don't understand the price of ammo, 9mm is cheaper. I do like the CMR 30 and the PMR 30 though, both are light weight and mine work just fine. The Ruger carbine in 9mm, though heavy, is a good bet too. Pair it with a glock 9mm and not a bad combo.
I have a .22 mag I can't get rid of, so I am looking around for a rifle or pistol to use the ammo in, since I am stuck buying it. Debating still if I want a bolt or semi, revolver or auto...
.22 WMR / .22Mag Bolt https://www.tombstonetactical.com/catalog/ruger/8352-american-rimfire-22-wwr-black-stainless-18in/ not a bad deal $324.50 but out of stock there is a cheaper version too $285.00 or so plus a few other options https://www.tombstonetactical.com/catalog/long-rifles/rifles/22mag/ The bolt ones are a lot less "scary" lookin plus there is this carbine https://www.tombstonetactical.com/catalog/eaa/600540-eaa-appeal-sa-rfl-22m-10rd/
If it has a threaded barrel and the can blocks the sights then a scope it is. Something like the cmr has sights well up above where the can is so iron would be fine.
The American answer is all of the above. You can get one of the American Heritage six shooters and get both 22wmr and 22lr cylinders.
Actually got to shoot both the other day, and the Heritage has a model that comes in 9 shot! Actually, both do, really looking into it.
Yeah I have ruled out 10/22 mag. On account of I can get a cmr30, suppressor, pay for the tax stamp and a ton of ammo for the price of a 10/22 mag.
I just noticed stores around here have full compliments of 22WMR, FMJ, SP, HP, ballistic tip, 30 and 40gr where applicable. Walmart had 1 box of ammo limit on everything but bird shot shotgun shells and 22wmr. It's still an all you can eat buffet for 22wmr gluttons. It's forgotten enough to where no one's buying it. My step brother shot 4 or 5 deer with 22WMR. They didn't even know they had been hit and dropped where they stood or a few steps away. So it's definitely lethal. My bolt action marlin shoots pretty close to 1moa back when all I could find was 40gr winchester ammo. But I did lap the barrel and float it. All you have to do to keep near 1moa is not touch the zoom on the cheap little scope. Wife's open sight bolt matlin would probably shoot close to the same if it had a scope. If I could get virus quarantined for 2 weeks I would take out all the 22 mags with all different kinds of ammo and see what each gun shoots best. Take the scoped one mechanically 0 the scope and shim it till it gets on paper at 100yd.
Well I can still buy all the 22wmr ammo I want for 22 cents a round. I just sold a bunch of lame old Walmart 115gr fmj 9mm ammo on gun broker for 80 cents a round and I can't find it locally for a reasonable price. Yep 22wmr sure seems like a pointless stupid round. I remember the argument "why buy a 22mag when 9mm ammo is so much cheaper". Now you're starting to get it. You'll get there eventually, I hope.
Well I can still find 22wmr locally. So of course I checked for crazy pandemic pricing. Only about 50 cents a shot which really sucks to buy. Makes me want to round up the ammo I'm not really interested in and sell it. But only a little.
If you don't use ammo like it is always going to be there, you might have it when you really need it. Otherwise, you've got a pretty little doorstop. This is one of the reasons I went to practice with CO2/ BB and pellet guns. Given the current trends, those too may soon become hard to feed.
