We are the greatest nation in the world, and everyone is envious of it. They will try to take that away, to destroy this experiment in self determined government. Only by our will and strength of our resolve shall this United States remain the nation envisioned by our founding fathers. Celebrate our freedom, enjoy your barbeque and family, but never forget there are those who would willingly take it all away, either in an instant or over time through incrementalism. It was once said that Americans would never accept Socialism but, they would accept it a small piece at a time...
Thank you Dunerunner, for saying it like it is. We need to step up and stop this socialism crap before it gets started. Today we need to say a prayer for all our fallen soldiers, and thank you for the ones serving now. It’s a shame the way we treat our veterans, they deserve more. There is so much that needs to be done. We also need to thank President Trump for making America great again.
There is a difference between Independence Day and the 4th of July. One commemorates the beginnings of the liberation of Subject to become a Citizen and the forming of the first Citizen run Government in human history. The other is a date on the calendar that coincides with that declaration. I always use the term Independence Day because of the incrementalism mentioned in the OP. "The deliberations of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 were held in strict secrecy. Consequently, anxious citizens gathered outside Independence Hall when the proceedings ended in order to learn what had been produced behind closed doors. The answer was provided immediately. A Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, “A republic, if you can keep it.”" Our Republic - Benjamin Franklin

Thanks to all of those who made us free and continue to ensure that freedom. And a special thanks to Ghrit for fighting those British and getting us that independence!
I can never see or hear that phrase without also hearing Kate Smith's rendition of God Bless America. Yeah I'm that old but it always lifts my spirit and reminds me of all that the founders gave me. Listen or sing along yourself fellow citizens and take heart. All is not yet lost. And if your throat seems a little tight afterwards a colbeer might help! Happy Independence Day friends.
