New guy here, in case ya'll missed the intro. And I love Jeeps. Been a Jeep lover since I cut my teeth on Dixie Duke. ! That was the early eighties, and I longed to be behind the wheel of a CJ until around 2008 when I came across an old CJ-7 in Kalispell, MT. Long story short, I got myself a welfare patient that became a faithful horse, getting me into some of the most awesome places I have ever seen! Here's a pic of my ride: IMG_20161127_141310921 by Guerrilla Tactical posted Jun 27, 2018 at 9:58 PM So what's your horse? What gets you out into the wild? You rolling in a Jeep, or do you have another preference?
First Jeep I drove was Dad's '60 Willy's. I lived in my '63 Wagoneer one summer and took my '74 Wagoneer to my first duty station... and left it there with a blown engine when I went overseas. I put my latest Grand Wagoneer together from '85 and '86 parts. I've had it for 25 years or so. Still gets 10MPG uphill or down. I don't think the fuel tank has fallen out yet, but I haven't looked today.
Yep, yer a Jeep fan! IMG_20160503_131443569 by Guerrilla Tactical posted Jun 27, 2018 at 9:58 PM I'm posting this because I don't really care about the reveal. I call it the Bog Rat. And that's the license plate ID. Oh well. It's my Rat! Can't wait till I can afford to rebuild a first gen Willy's! I was just telling a coworker today how the original Jeep could fit in a modern pickup box! Oh the maneuverability offroad!
Been a life long Jeep fan, have had 3 Wagoneer, last one was a 72 with a 500inch caddy motor and 700R4 auto trans! Got 17 miles per gallon IF I kept my foot out of it! Current Jeeps are a 1946 Willies CJ2A and a 46 MB from the navy motorpool in Oregon. And we have a 1950 Jeepster we converted to 4X4 using the axles from a mid 50 pick up, and a 304 Jeep V8! It's a kind of rare model thay had all the chrome and stainless and all the options, it was orderd as a ranch truck for the origional owners wife and she kept it Nice! Paid way to much for it, but it was tool darn cool to not have! My other guilty pleasure is my Dodge PowerWagons, only WW2 era mod 1 and 2 WC series trucks, a 1942 half cab truck ( Not a Pickup, a "Truck") very rare, only 800 total, most went to ether north Africa or South Pacific and stayed there. And my second series 1946 WC-30 short bed 1 1/2 ton monster! Both are Cummins 3.9L turbo diesel industrial powered ( high compression, no glow plugs) with the 42 being a 8 speed Allison auto, and the 46 being a six speed manual! Both have newer NP-205 divorced transfer cases, but both trucks have the PTO Braden winches, the 42 has three of them, and the 46 has two!!! As cool as the Jeeps are, the Dodges are even better! Sorry, but there it is! Lol Looking for a pre 1954 WC ( series 2) window wagon for a nice SUV build!
Big time. Prior to leaving the US, I owned a 1990 YJ, modified by a good friend, and me. It so happens I was talking about it in another thread, just a little while ago. I posted about it HERE and in a couple of posts below.
I did a few mods to mine, The Nutter among them. I will share some pics when I can! Would LOVE to get my hands on an old Cherokee Chief! Or a Gladiator!
Yep yep! Somewhat "newer" models. Purchased a '97 Wrangler TJ in '98, and my wife got a '98 Cherokee that same year. We're still driving them both. Cherokee runs like it's still new, has guts. Wrangler starting to need engine work. I put a mild 3" Teraflex lift on the Wrangler, along with Detroit Tru-Trac Limited Slips front and rear. Goes anywhere from back and forth to the grocery store to a local "4" rated trail. The desert sun has taken its toll on the paint. May leave the paint as is since I don't worry about desert pin-striping. Love 'em both.
Had a CJ5 304 Stick and a Grand Cherokee. Getting rid of the Cherokee was one of the best days ever. I've since moved on to a Bronco with a 351. For some reason the Jeeps felt fragile to me, unlike the Bronco which feels indestructable, I will say I could put that old CJ almost anywhere.
We have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee XJ. It is a tank, can go most places, great in snow plus easy to fix. I thought the XJ would give out from the first kid but it is still going and the second kid is loving it. My son said some people have laugh at it because it is old and beat up but once they ride in it, they have Jeep fever. Biggest issue is where to put a full size spare tire. I see most XJ's with spares strapped to the roof which is where the kids keep theirs. One cannot go 4 wheeling and rely on the donut spare because that gives out, been there done that. Great vehicle for teens, car camping and hauling 300 pound pigs.
I have had several Grand Cherokee Jeeps and one Commander, I loved them all. My true go anywhere vehicle is a Ford 8210: This is a field I was 'mowing' earlier this year.
Have owned a '58 CJ3b, '86 CJ7, '92 YJ, and a 2000 TJ. All were mostly stock form. Nowdays living in town my '2001 F150 works for me. Overall the 3b was the most capable of them because of size and gearing but the TJ had the best radio and air conditioner
Have wanted a jeep my whole life. I finally got my first on back in 2015. It's a 2015 JKU Rubicon Hard Rock edition and I love it. It's still just stock but even stock it's a super capable vehicle compared to my '98 Tacoma TRD. And the Taco has taken me everywhere I've ever had a hankerin to go. I'm always on the look out for an older jeep that I can tinker with and begin to restore though. From what I've seen, the habit might be worse than crack!
I'm on # 4.......A couple of TJ's and now 2 JK's......Finally ended up with a 2015. I wanted to get into the JK line for the engine and tranny, not to mention the creature comforts. Love my Jeeps, but building em up every time and moving on is pricey. What does JEEP stand for? Just Empty Every Pocket
I've had a few Jeeps and loved them all. I miss my Cherokee the most. It was rugged, reliable, small enough to squeak through the tight spots, and a real tight turning radius. Almost as good as a dedicated off road vehicle while being a great daily driver. It was also designed to be serviced. I bought it used and wasn't long before I needed to swap out the starter. Easy peasy along with everything I did for preventative maintenance. Only other thing that needed replacement was the front stabilizer - the cause of the famous "death wobble".
My Jeep is a TJ... Only 92k mile so far. I have taken it many places, through snow mud stream beds with a trailer full of fire wood and more. Amazed where a Jeep can go (esp with 9.5 Warn winch). HF, VHF/UHF, 900mhz WAN link, 800mhz and Low Band VHF. Noisy as heck going through the trees! Had a 3.73 set of gears as part of the original config and there is just no stopping it. Tires are only 32's but have had no issue with clearance yet. Yes electrical chassis issues, cracked exhaust and new radiator but never plan to let her go.... What can I say, my other jeep is a Grand and the one before that was a Grand (Sill have with 260k miles all original equip). Jeep kind of people.
just sold my Jeep Cherokee Laredo and won't buy another jeep unless it's pre computer garbage. replaced the computer 3 times too many sensors replaced the crank sensors more times that points back in the day the service light is a warning a sensor has died. I thought I had to replace the heater coil a quick look on the old internet showed I had to disassmeble the dash drivers side over to the passenger side if a dealer or a mechanic did it it was 4 to 6 hours over 1,000 dollars . parts are not cheap most crap is plastic connectors mini plugs pins and pot metal. New vehicles look tough mostly plastic composite one good blow out and your fender looks like a shredded wheatie. when I need a body shop to repair after a blow out tire failure no thanks. I am not buying anything new picked up a 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cab runs like a striped ape good mileage looks like my old ranch / hunting truck. in fact most all new vehicles are fine while in warranty. and the warranty reflects their faith in their product 3 years 36,000 miles limited to what they won't argue about. no thanks I got better things to invest in for 30 to 40,000 bucks. @400 to 700 a month + insurance, depending on down payment. I paid cash had it totally serviced with new brakes for less that 2 grand and for less than 50 bucks a month it's insured for liability mexican motorist and free road side assistance. I can't see why people wear jeans that look rotted and worn but insist that they drive a new SUVanwaggon 4 wheel drive with butt warmers and heated rear view mirrors and wipers on the headlights
I have own 2 jeeps, a CJ and a Wrangler, and loved them both. Practicality made me purchase the Toyota pickup and the wife demanded a RAV4 but I hope to purchase another someday but need someplace to park it first as garage is full. I live in Northern Idaho and don't think it's a good idea to live vehicles out in the weather but I do hope to get another one someday.
I own a 1979 CJ-7. Bought it new when I made Lance Corporal. 258 straight 6 with a T-3 transmission. Currently has 586,000 miles on her with one engine rebuild. Had her restored about 6 years ago. 4 inch lift and 33 inch tires. No power steering or brakes. Wouldn't trade her for anything.
Looks like I'm in good company! I've been building on this thing for nearly ten years now, and getting nowhere. But I love this little Bog Rat anyway! I have a new frame and tub stored away, along with all new hardware, a new suspension, and some full size Dana 44's to toss under it when I'm done. Waiting on the funds to purchase a drive train so I can begin the big work of restoring it to new!
