I've been retired from the Marine Corps almost as long as I served, and I've finally let my hair grow out to something longer than regulation length. It's amazing! Something about beach air lets me train it to do just what I want. In a couple months I'll have hair like this guy. The trouble I have is finding a comb that doesn't rake my scalp like it wants to put furrows in my head. I've tried Ace and another brand that was equally tough on the skin. I need to have a comb that I can carry with me all the time, but one that's gentle on the scalp. Any recommendations?
all joking aside, you can get cheap plastic pocket combs at a beauty supply like Ulta i have long hair i can sit on and i use a wide tooth comb and stop digging when you hit your scalp!
LOL........ I have been out 21 years now.... and I rarely let my hair grow long.... But your expo above... mine is longer than his... better go get a shave soon
I don't need no stinking comb , I use a bores' hair brush . Now that I'm old and retired I let my hair grow longer . And I've had a full beard since I was 16 .
I have been using a comb my late Mother had. Wider spaced teeth, and rounded ends on them. No scratching. Might seem odd for a guy to use, but it works very nicely.
@Bishop, I cut my own hair for 16 years, high & tight. Now that I'm retired it's time to enjoy my freedom from regulations. I did the mustache thing long ago, mostly as a protest of the years I had to wear a USMC regulation mustache. . Wife said I looked like my Dad...and then when it got really long, like a walrus. I shaved it off after some lady at Walmart thought I was so scary looking that she screamed at he kid to get back in the car as I approached and locked the doors. I did the beard thing for no-shave November-April one year and took lots of pictures so I don't have to do that again. The hair is fun. Being on the beach so much it gets blown all wild and crazy as it dries. Never a dull moment. I can keep it tamed with just fingers, but the comb makes it look a lot neater. I'm not a hat wearer, unless it's an absolute necessity, and wonder if that's why I still have hair.
Methinks that the mold flash is the sharp edge that's gouging you. Take a close squint, see if that isn't so. If it is, some sandpaper and round off the tips of the "fingers" should help a lot. (Or try a lighter touch ----) Haven't used a comb in at least 30 years. Really short haircuts to hide the thin stand of follicles (saves a few bux if you do it yourself.)
so the palm comb actually comes from the horse industry, go get a cheap one from the local feed store, they are cheaper there but it is designed to rub your scalp not actually sort out you hair
I'm going to introduce a bunch of cheap combs to one of these. I have a feeling @ghrit wass onto something with the pointy teeth being the issue. My old comb, which was losing teeth and has now been misplaced, never poked my scalp like this.
I've sanded the teeth of all my new combs, and this seems to help. I'm starting to find that the best thing for sorting out my hair as it gets longer has been at my fingertips all along. The constant summer winds here make a wilder look easier to maintain, so I'm trying to get used to it, and just keep it arranged with my fingers. I haven't had hair this long since high school. If I go another month I'll have hair about this long.
