SSN-637 USS Sturgeon, first attack sub of the Sturgeon class. All have been decommissioned and recycled.
Both of my grandpas worked at Keyport. My uncle at Bremerton Shipyard. He would go out on subs occasionally. Really cool. Murica.
I've just recently purchased my first submarine game and have not been disappointed. It's called Cold Waters. Sub warfare seems to happen at a much slower pace than the first person shooters I generally like. Kind of relaxing in a weird way. Here's a youtube live stream by a guy that, from what I understand, was actually a US Navy submariner. It's interesting to hear him talk about the boats as he plays. This one's about the the Sturgeon class. He's actually driving SSN-664 Sea Devil.
hehehe. Submarine speed is measured in knots, not fps. You betcha it's slower in real life, dunno 'bout the game. Plenty of time wondering what's about to happen after "Torpedo in the water!" is passed over the 1MC.
In my Navy days, having gotten my first Atari computer, I got into the submarine game "Silent Service". An old eight bit game on a 64K machine, so graphics were primitive by today's standards, but gameplay was fun. Funny thing, I was a frigate sailor, we specialized in ASW. So it was fun taking the other side in the game.
