    Asia-Off-Grid RIP 11-8-2018

This post reminded me of a story a close Khmer friend told me, when I first met his parents. My friend's name is Kamnat. I would like to share it with you all, now.

When the Khmer Rouge was in power here, they would force people to marry, even if the couple had never met each other before in their lives. Heck, they had never even seen each other before. Anyway, it was either marry this complete and total stranger, or be killed. Hmm. Tough choice. I imagine very few refused. This was the case with Kamnat's parents, as well.

My point here is, it is funny (odd, not ha-ha) how two people who had never met before in their lives, got married under some of the absolute worst circumstances on this planet. Yet, they have managed to stay together for all these years. They are still married, and they are still happily together.

I don't know if there is much difference between random chance and our present US system of courting. The whole system is usually divorced from reality, both parties are on their best behavior, and inherent in the system is the thought if it does not work out, we will just get divorced. That is for the decreasing number who even get married.

That is a helluva story. While I have the utmost respect for you ladies and gentlemen that have found your lifelong mates , I believe I have been destined to die alone. I've put up with all the lying , cheating, all give and no take crap , I can stand in 1 lifetime. And I'm ok with it. (y)

I've seriously thought about it. I've got a Phillipino guy I've known , and worked for and with , for years that's tried to talk me into going over there and live on a plantation that his parents own and kind of just watch out for them. Seems like a helluva opportunity , but I feel like I need to be here for my daughter .

You missed out on an opportunity, if only there for a short while. You could have met a Filipina just for you. Filipinas are some of the most devoted, loyal, and loving women on the face of this planet. Amazing women. The trouble is in finding one who isn't extremely jealous. They are out there, though. The Waray women tend to be the worst, when it comes to being jealous.
