They can ask nearly everything of prospective jury members. The idea is to determine if there is a bias that works the way the lawyer wants or not.

I was one of the people who was on the insurance fraud case that we look into .for everyone that is real insurance claim I run into 10 that is a fraud claim .we do insurance claims investigation for the insurance company .so I was on the stand when asked about my online profile and the diff websites I belong to .
The defense team has people who do there research on you before you take the stand against them .i was ask about my profile here and I told them that I lived in diff places that had tornadoes and hurricanes and I learned hard lesson from them so I learned to have a little somethings put back for hard times that seam to have the judge tell the defendants lawyer to move on

So, being the bottom feeders they were, they naturally wanted to paint you (READ: all members here) as a bunch of paranoid, the-end-of-the-world-happens-next-week types. Scum bags. I'm glad they lost.

Been on jury duty a few times, usually early in the game one of the insurance company lawyers will ask the standard question about claims, and I will state that I believe that if you pay the premiums, you should get the money, at which time they remove me from the jury pool for that trial as one of their choices not to be on the jury, and I go back to work. Was on a grand jury for 6 months and it totally destroyed my faith in that part of the legal system. There were no stars painted on the ceiling, but other than that it was good old 14 th century justice pretending to be fair. If you cut a deal with the DA, you didn't go to the grand jury or it came up as done and all signified as saying yes, if not the DA presented the "edited facts" to you, supported by the local police and you were told to say yes. Since it is "pretrial", the defense is not allowed to be present or even be represented and of course it is carefully spelled out to you that all that is required is doubt as the facts will come out in the jury trial.
We were also told not to watch television or read the newspapers about crimes and possible future jury events and to be excused if we had and then being verbally disciplined for disobeying instructions, all this for $10 a day.

I haven't been on Jury duty....I think both the prosecution and defence would probably agree to excuse me....even though the extended trial duration would be lucrative to the lawyers of both sides....

My fellow jurors would hate me...I would make the 12 Angry Men seem like snap deciders.

Whenever I get called, we always get around to the fact that I worked in torts and liabilities for the state and the lawyer excuses me before I say anything else.

Lawyers and prosecutors always want good little sheep without a thought in their minds and then may the best sheep dog win. Anything else is seen as a threat by the whole court system charade.

The biggest problem most of the lawyers I work with in the diff case I have always told them I believe in the constitutional right to jury nullification and that is there biggest problem with me at times.
I believe in the whole truth when on the stand that does not sit well with some of the d.a. I have turned case over to for trial

in the place in is was giving testimony on what I found I was tried to be painted with a board brush of beening a right wing nut case .the judge ask the guy if have every been through a tornado or a hurricane and he did he would have the knowable of having something put aside for the bad times

The old timers used to put things back for the bad times that they knew were coming, the Jewish people had to bail out and go to Egypt or starve as the Pharaoh had listened to Joseph but his family hadn't. Today we not only don't put anything away, but sell the seed corn and borrow money next year on the credit card to buy seed to plant. I think that part of the reason so many people have problems with people who are prepping is a combination of fear that we may well be right, guilt that they aren't preparing for their families if indeed hard times come, and a sense that their greed and desire for our resources might not be easily available if they wish to take them to continue their present life style. I have prepared hand out food for the refugees and it will keep them alive, I hope they like ramen noodles and oatmeal as it is cheap, easily stored, easily prepared, the boiling will purify the water it is prepared in and requires no refrigeration. If they have children, I will even include some powdered milk and dried eggs. I do not expect them to be happy campers however. I have seen many biases being used as weapons in our court system. If you are conservative you can not be trusted as you are a racial, anti gay, red neck, capitalist, who hates the poor and believe that no one should ever have a second chance, and if you are religious, you are a bigot who will punish everyone who does not belong to your particular sect and follow your narrow minded policies. It is hard to decide if the criminal is being tried or if the peacocks who call themselves lawyers, DA's and judges are posturing in order to receive the greatest possible fee or prepare for the next election and their future political careers.

I like Grand Jurys simply because the Prosecutor isn't in-charge, the Jury Forman is, and the jurers can ask questions if they want to... Prosecutors don't like folks on GJs to KNOW this, but if you don't like they questions, you can tell the Prosecutor to go get the Judge, and ask him... That shuts them up real quick... Being on a Jury during Trial is boring, cause you can't ask questions, you just have to listen, take Notes, and then render a verdict... All the State AAGs know me and I always get excused after that first time... I was On-CALL for the Feds, last summer for three months, but never got Called-In... Oh well, maybe next time....
