I love dome homes as well. What do they do for water problems on underground Mono homes, Concrete is porous and I havent seen anything that talks about how they water proof those underground domes. Do you know anything about this? @mysterymet
Liquid Rubber.... You see the Ads on TV all the time.... and It works, as long as it is applied properly in the first place... Pressure-Create, over Foam Shell, and then Coat the exterior Surface with the Rubber Crap and then Bury....
We used an impervious membrane under the (multi-mega gallon) treated water tanks for the MetroWest projects just west of Boston. Same stuff stuck to the sides of the tanks after stripping the forms. We had no failures for the first 4 years, dunno about since then. There are indeed several ways to handle concrete seepage. Detecting leakage out of tanks into dirt is trickier but not impossible, it's just like finding leaks from swimming pools. In leakage into MT places like basements and underground dwellings (and for dot mil stuff) but it is pretty easy to handle with drainage and sump pumps.
Monolithic Dome homes, schools, churches, storages, gyms and more | Monolithic Dome Institute This has good dome info!
Monolithic Domes uses the Membrane as the form.. Spray foam into the inflated membrane, add rebar, add shotcrete. Do finish coat inside - BAM, concrete home. I wrote an article about alternate communication shelters for the old MRT magazine. The cover photo was a Monolithic dome. The editor got so many requests for a back issue, they had to make a second print run to handle the requests. There was a Monolithic dome builder here in AK @ Soldatna - (down South of Anchorage) - and one of the hotter products was a 10 ft (D) dome that could be delivered to your site. Sadly, they left the State and no one took over the business. There is a major dome village still there with an "R"value of a bijillion or so, just the thing for cold Alaska winters. production line on site. Nice winter cabin.
Paint it Drab Green, and do Light Disipline, and disappear in Plain Sight... Especially if you threw a layer of dirt on it and planted some native Grasses.....
