its a kit that replaces the fuel return regulator with a replacement seat, valve, gasket and...you guessed it - a spring - blue, even
The original spring can weaken over time and there's a possibility of the fuel pressure dropping below 45 psi. Pressure below 45 psi can damage the injectors. Which will lead to an expensive repair. Heres a great write up on the install. Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com
Here are the fuel and oil additives I used to limp my truck along until I could afford the repairs. Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost | Power Service REV-X High Performance Oil Additive
so far ... : diesel extreme has been run on a full tank .. seemed to act better till i refilled ... oil change, air, and fuel filters /w stiction eliminator in the oil after running 100 miles .. when cold seems to run rougher than before hot shots tech line stated it will get worse before it gets better blue spring kit ordered .. and making the app for that ... egr port cleaned .. and new gaskets (wanting the egr delete) as stated after 10+ min of warming up .. seems to be fine as if there is no trouble .. just need a long haul drive for a chemical run for the contracts ... really get that oil hot and running through everything ... but not willing to take a 2 hour long drive for no reason ... and i know the 5-24 mile trips are hard on the engine .. but cannot justify the fuel ... esp when i am not making money ... fingers crossed the spring kit shows at the dealer in the am ... and confirm the app for it's install (sorry .. bouncing the FT and the contracts .. makes for long days and hardly any internet access or time)
spring kit installed .. and found out i needed a new lift pump .. still running really rough at start ... do not know if it is a ficm problem or a injector ... time to visit a shop and have it scanned ... but after it heats up no troubles ... and i cannot afford to leave the truck with a shop overnight ...
blue spring kit ... installed ... new lift pump installed ... new filters an air cleaner installed .... hotshots secret in for almost 2k miles .. on first fire in the am the engine is hitting a dead hole ... and does so unless i leave it run for 10+ min ... reading up ... looking around .. no time with the FT and the contracts to stop and get it scanned .. the following can be happening .. FICM might have a cold solder joint.. sticky injector .. allowing too much fuel into the cyl on cold start or .... the feared 6.0 head gasket problems ... but ... but ... no coolant loss ... and the coolant is clean with no discoloration ... ... no smoke from exhaust .. other than first start ... or a hammer dump to blow it out ... .... and the oil level has risen about a half a quart .....
OK, I'll take a guess. One bad injector suffering from spool valve stiction. And, (Of Course) the unburnt fuel get blasted past the cold rings into the crank case so the level goes up. Fuel is a truly lousy lubricant; be guided accordingly.
new update ... hotshot secrets .. 4k miles to no avail ... still the one sticky injector for the first 10 min of running ... drained the oil ... did a flush kit ... and looked into a specialty oil additive... AR9000 Friction Modifiers | Archoil they brag that is is to clear up sticktion problems in 100 miles i beg to differ .... i have 260 miles with ar9100 friction modifier in the oil .. it started running like total hell .. instead of 1 noticeable misfire .. it turned to several .. well after a week of stressing ... the engine is getting smoother .. misfires still there .. just not as bad ... but still there .. i have the fuel treatment ready to go in .. in hopes that this will clear the problem up once and for all ... but because i have PS winter/anti-gel in the tank i have to run the tank low .. then add the fuel cleaner product .. with no more than 25 gal of fuel in the tank ... and run that till i am about out ,, again this archoil stuff is designed for the powerstoke engines and they brag heavy on it ... i will know more when i can do the fuel system cleaner ' i have my fingers crossed ... trying to keep from taking a loan out .. cause if i have too .. i will need to ad more on top of the injector service .. so they can delete the EGR while they are there as nervous as i am about this archoil additive ... and it scared the life out of me when i first added it ... but over the past week it is smoothing the engine out ... just waiting to see what the fuel system cleaner will do .. and if that takes care of it ... i will bragg about them 100% ... right now i am on the 50/50 .. and still thinking it is snake oil ... will keep you updated ... to read more on archoil ...
