Just a point in perspective to think about is that Chicago has had over 1,000 people shot so far this year, and 174 of them have died.

Yes...there was a truck control discussion....not banning trucks, but harm minimisation measures for limiting the potential for such attacks...bollards come to mind ;)

When tools are tools with tools, perhaps the tools shouldn't have access to those particular tools?

Is this really going to turn into a hateful political discussion? I heard some people waited for 5 hours to donate blood in Las Vegas today. They have the correct attitude. We either pull together and start putting our fellow Americans and human beings first or we will end up destroying ourselves. Yes, this was most likely politically motivated but what are the lessons that we want to learn from this?

I do not know how many of you that have children 18 and under in your lives but what are you saying to them? This is the world they are living in. I fear they will become hardened to terror. Today Tom Petty died and I remember being young and dancing at a Traveling Wilburys concert yet after today it scares me to think of my children at concerts. Terrorists hit two (?) concerts in Europe and now here. Politicians are temporary but terrorism seems to be here to stay.

Right now there are thousands of gun owners saying to themselves. "Please don't let him be a republican"

LV Metro just confirmed at presser that the shooter had weapons from ".308 to 223"

That would explain why the initial volley sounded like a Hog.

Range from shooter to crowd - ~500 meters. Well within the "effective range" of both 5.56mm and 7.62 NATO rounds.

ATF will report on weapons in 'the next two days or so'

Shooter was a multimillionaire real estate 'investor'

Girlfriend was found in Tokyo. Now in route back to US. Still no motivation has been named.

Too bad the perp offed himself. He could enlighten us as to his twisted motive. This was far too complex and obviously well planned, it is not just some guy going postal or off his meds.
I pray for the victims, dead and injured, and their families.
I dread the rash if rabid antigun crap this nation will be put through. I just hope Mr. Trump doesn't fall into their "you must do something, you must pass gun control!" BS.
This ua a criminal problem, not a gun problem.
And, just who was backing and helping this guy?

Initial rumors are alt-left anti Trumper Bernie voter, but it will take a few days before any real information along those lines is released. What is true is that he was a millionaire investor and owned his own aircraft, so he surely must not have been all that bitter about life. It also means that he had the wherewithal to purchase FA rifles.

Regardless of affiliations I suspect we will find out about some of the same medications that have been linked to shootings and other violence.

Lots of rumors going around....best to just let the investigators due their thing.....we will find out soon enough. Rumors are poison in the ear..... no good comes from conjecture at this time.

Some things that came to mind
    1. An attack or other violence can happen anywhere at any time.
    2. I'm responsible for my safety and the safety of my loved ones.
    3. Situational awareness always. If there is an attack or other violence, where might it come from?Where can I take cover if I need to? What escape routes are available? Where is the best position for me to be.
    4. Cell phone - is it always fully charged when you leave your home?
    5. If I can't carry I won't go.
    6. Is my vehicle parked where I can be among the first to leave if there is a panic?
    7. I need refreshers in first aid and I need to check my mobile first aid kit
    8. This isn't the last massacre

i thinking about this, Since i do not really care about Live Music, in large Crowds, that gives me an edge over the SnowFlake Crowd, right off... i like my Live Music, in small Clubs like my Favorite Pirate, plays... or in small group settings among Close Friends... I really have little Interest in ANY Large Crowd Gatherings, as i am getting to the Point i would rather watch it on 4K WideScreen Video... Big crowds, make me VERY nervous, always has been that way... Even small crowds are uncomfortable... One of the reasons i live out here, where i do...

M118LR Caution: Does not play well with others.

Big crowds, small crowds, movie theater-local church-drive by sitting in your parlor, the bottom line is that the only way you can stop a bad guy with a gun is a "Good Guy" with a gun that shoots accurately and first. All the Security in the world won't solve a dedicated "Evil Shooter", even Presidents have been shot.

Even a good guy with a gun wouldn't be able to stop this guy .. well unless he was in the hotel room next door .. and it was a no firearms allowed building. So he wouldn't have been a good guy.

And yes, all the security won't stop a dedicated individual or group.

I read the list of what was not allowed in the hotel which had guns, knives and mace. There is no security check in that hotel, no metal detectors and anyone can walk in. I never saw a sign forbidding any of those items.

A "sign"...... Only sheep or law abiding folks follow signs.
Well some sheepdogs that know how to carry concealed properly......may not acknowledge them signs neither. :sneaky:

They have the Doors Posted, but they are just the Minimum Signage.... Can’t cause the Gamblers, being afraid to walk thru the Front Doors... There is absolutely NO Concievable way to Secure a place like this with just a Sign, AND there is Absolutely NO WAY to stop this kind of Person from carrying out his Murderious Plan... It can NOT be done, and there is NO LAW, that can be passed, that will stop this kind of Assault, PERIOD... AND Anyone who thinks otherwise, is just DELUSIONAL, or SIMPLEMINDED...
