I wouldn't be to certain about the machine gun angle. It could have been a bump fire or it could have been rapid triggering of a semi-auto. The witnesses were also in a panic mode. Mrs 3M thinks I'm a bit paranoid because whenever we go out I'm always looking for areas of potential threats as well as cover and escape, also for places that have good sight lanes. She stopped asking a long time ago why we are sitting at a particular table in a restaurant. Also why we don't go to crowded events like the concert. I'd hope that in this situation I'd have gotten her and myself to cover and then called 911 to report what I'm seeing. Mental note is to follow up with planned medical courses to be able to provide assistance to other folks prior to the arrival of medics.
Just a NOTE, here: The Mandaly Bay Resort & Casino is a Posted "GUN FREE ZONE" .... SO, how could this happen????? Apparently this YAHOO could NOT READ, or understand, the English Language.... A real lot of good, those Posted Signs did.... NOT.. I wonder if the Cops who responded to the shooting, called the MBRS BEFORE they entered the property, as REQUIRED by this Document????
Well...so much for Health Care...so much for Tax Reform...so much for getting anything done except arguing about Gun control for the next 6 months.... @DKR "I suspect of the 50+ dead, many will have died as a result of the stampeding crowd & not from gunfire. The 400+ injured will likely show most injured from the stampede as well." I agree that many were crush by the crowd but firing down into a crowd from 32 floor up - well - you couldn't miss if you wanted to do so, no aiming necessary just point and pull the trigger as fast as possible...and it took them time to find him so I bet he got off quite a few magazines. What a horror story... They question now is "Why?"
I've gone back and listened the record audio of the shooter. Based on that - I don't believe the weapon was a full auto piece. Nor a slam fire. Having fired a full auto GAU-5 (CAR-15 for the USAF) more than once - the cyclic rate is 'wrong' Here - this is an M-steen going cyclic - slam fire setups are even faster. Compare to a Hog going cyclic - (go to 13:30 mark) The LV shooter has a slower cyclic rate - much like that of a hog - then a variable cyclic rate. I'm going to guess and say some kind of crank-fire on a semi-auto. More than one.
Monkeys are not paranoid. Monkeys are careful. Monkeys learn. Monkeys ensue they and the ones they love stay alive. IOW - Monkeys be smart..... My wife gives me the same line of crap - but...we still sit back to the wall and watch the door and parking lot. Near a good exit.
Just watched the local non-network reporting (KVVU) the one station in town I can actually believe based on observed past history. UMC is on total lockdown with armed Metro cops at all entrances. No autos allowed on bordering streets. No one allowed in area unless they are able to show UMC ID - and then the cops call to confirm. Reports the the place is literately packed, almost SRO. As the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the area, I cannot imagine the scene inside. All hospital staff from all area hospitals recalled to work. Oddly, The Sunrise facility wasn't mentioned. They have to be picking up the overflow from UMC. Will continue monitoring. Still trying to see if Nellis AFB (I worked in the Hospital facility for a couple of years) provided any Mutual aid support.
@DKR "Still trying to see if Nellis AFB (I worked in the Hospital facility for a couple of years) provided any Mutual aid support." I would be very surprised if they didn't at least provide medical personnel and medical supplies, maybe vehicle and helicopter support also.
Well said, '49. All terrorists should be allowed to have guns and to brandish them in public. That way, we could just shoot them. "Good Guys don't Brandish!" (Ah, if all of Life's little problems could be so easily solved...)
From Sunrise Hosp Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, the closest Trauma Center to the Las Vegas strip, can report that we have treated 180 patients resulting from the shooting late Sunday night; 14 of those patients have died. We are currently notifying next of kin and working with Emergency Services personnel and Las Vegas Metro PD to provide information to families trying to locate loved ones who may be in our care. On behalf of every Care Team member at Sunrise Hospital we extend our deepest sympathies to these grieving families. “Our Trauma Center physicians and hospital staff have done an amazing job. So far, we have performed approximately 30 surgeries. This has been an unprecedented response to an unprecedented tragedy. Our trauma team and all supporting nursing units, critical care areas and ancillary services are all at work this morning in the aftermath of this tragedy – and most stayed throughout the night – to help the victims and to assist their loved ones,” said Todd P. Sklamberg, CEO of Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center “I want to commend the staff and our partners in response – Las Vegas Metro PD and emergency services - for their tremendous response to this mass shooting.”
The two reports I heard on what happened: A reporter who was on the scene reported the shooter killed himself and THEN the cops broke in. Cops waiting until they are sure the shooter is dead BEFORE kicking in doors is normally what they do from what I've seen and nearly every after action report when all said and done. A second report from the police dept claims they broke in and killed the shooter. CLAIMING they killed the shooter is also normally what they claim in about 96% of the cases I've followed. Then it turns out that the cops did NOT kill the perp and what they claimed was a lie, which is also usual.
That "bad" table near the kitchen is a great table if you need to exit quickly - all restaurant kitchens lead to exits. Kitchens are also chock full of nice sharp and heavy blunt objects.
Here Are All The Hoaxes Being Spread About The Las Vegas Shooting This is interesting. A Buzzfeed thread on all the BS being pitched on Twitter. And folks wonder why I eschew the so-called Social Media.
Without an acoustic profile on the area, I'll go out on a limb a say that there are at least two echos for every round fired. Reduce the cell phone recordings rate of fire to one actual round per every three reports registered on the recording. JMHO.
Well....perhaps active shooters, tend to provoke.....that kind of discussion, particularly when the killed and injured metrics are sensational. As I am kept reminded....an armed society is a polite society....perhaps Stephen Paddock was demonstrating just how polite he was. Debunking the myth: “An armed society is a polite society”
Didn't the press do the same thing by immediately bringing up the subject of truck control during the Bastille Day massacre in France where over 80 people were killed? No, because it didn't fit the agenda. The fact is that there are many, many ways for a nut case to kill large groups of people whether guns are available or not. It's not about the tool, it's about the people.
Not even the Democrats were stupid enough to touch gun control. They said they would do something but that was just pandering to the far left, they didn't want to risk pissing off main stream democrats by actually passing anything.
Bitcherly already jumped on the NRA to the effect that if "silencers" were legalized "as the NRA wants" the carnage would have been greater. What a walking douche bag she was, is, and will be.
