Irma and some changing perspectives

Last years Matthew experience has put a bit of a different spin on Thing 3's perspective as Irma swings this way. Somewhere after the hot dogs & hamburgers, between the brisket & steaks, Thing 3's other half relayed that he had been attempting to put together a Hurricane Emergency Kit. Them little hand cranked radios seem to be in short supply even on the inter-web. He wasn't surprised that I had several already assembled Emergency Kits, as I had been slowly including Him in with the Grandchildren for On-The-Job-Training (OJT) and hands on projects around the house. He was surprised when I handed Him the ALICE rig that I had been maintaining for Him since He started dating my daughter in High School. I even sent Him home with a Council Jersey strapped to the rig. Needless to say Thing 3 got a bit apprehensive as we took the hands on tour of what items are in which pockets, but Her past criticism of Dad's over indulgence in Survival Emergency Equipment has seemed to disappear. Thing 3 isn't interested in experiencing Hurricane Irma, and after the experience of being a Mother and going through Matthew last year I don't blame her. Looks like I might be shy Thing 3, Thing 3's thing 1, and Thing 3's significant other the day after Irma should something wicked this way come.

 

Do you really call your daughter Thing 3?

 

I do not name my kids by name either but I would be insulted if someone referred to me as Thing 3.

 

Looking at the forecast-ed path, You people may want to get motivated to get ready to hit the road.
180 mph winds and storm surge is nothing to mess with.

 

I rode out Andrew (on the east side ) and Katrina ( on the west side ) I'm not as young as I was to be humping fuel and generators around the country side.

I am hoping Irmageddin does it's thing in the southern end, as I am in the north end. Not wishing hurt on anyone, but there is an old saying, "Better thee than me."
Due to various factors, bugging out is just not an option for me here in North Florida. So, I will hunker down in my late parents' concrete home with no close trees. My own property is far more likely to take damage from wind.
Water is not a factor this far inland. I have my storm preps, and can weather a power outtage.

 

Nope. Just my bug-out plan. I am rolling up the welcome mat and hitting the road in my RV headed for Alabama, Friday morning at the latest. I am good, have a place to go and will update the Monkeys when I land or if plans change. Not my first hurricane or rodeo for that matter.

 

This storm is as large as OHIO. Hurricane force winds *will* affect the entire state. Good luck and God speed.

 

Let's see.... Miami is, on average, just over 5 feet about sea level. What kind of storm surge will a CAT or CAT 6 deliver to the AO?

 

I am always amazed at how quickly we prepper types go from lunatic to hero when trouble comes.

 

Cat 5 could be 15-20 feet easily...Cat 6 has ZERO, because it does not exist.

 

The Grandmother of all Things has her Doctor Seuss shirt, Thing 1, Thing 2, and Thing 3 have their Doctor Seuss shirts. When I find the proper outlet, Thing 2's thing 1, Thing 2's thing 2, and Thing 3's thing 1 will have theirs. They all seem to think that it's cute, that is as long as I pick up the tab at Universal.

It's going to be a bit harder for the North Florida Folks at the I-10 295/95 interchange, everyone evacuating South & Central Florida is going to be parked or run out of gas at the interchange.

 

Just got the latest updates via phonecom. Thing 3 & her clan are heading to Mississippi. (aka Old Guy gets to watch 2 French Bulldogs) Thing 2 and her clan heading to Kentucky. (aka Old Guy gets to watch 2 Labradors) Thing 1 and her clan are heading to Atlanta. (aka Old Guy gets to watch 2 Chiweenies & a Pit Bull) COMNAVKITCHENSINK has been directed to launch to Virginia on Bad Monday. My Sister & her clan (West Palm Beach Rich Folks) are pulling an RON1 at my place in route to rendezvous with Thing 2. (aka Old Guy gets to watch English Bulldog, Pugh, and Mongrel Cur) I can strap a pair of the unable to swim Bulldogs to the Labs backs, the Chiweenies will fit in my pockets, guess I get the English Bulldog as my swim buddy, the Pugh is 16 years Old so she better be smart enough to bite on to someone in the pack. I never liked the mongrel cur, so that unik better be able to swim..... Perhaps being the Survival Guy isn't what it's cracked up to be???????????????
