Just to have a single thread to post the silliness seen locally (your locally) over the Great Eclipse. It will be a nothing-burger here in South-Central AK as the little bit that might be seen will be well hidden by overcast.... Elsewhere, however..... The Oregon National Guard is on standby at Salem Airport in cause of any panic or emergencies in expected huge crowds as people flock in their thousands to watch the phenomenon. Lt Col Brian Houston, a pilot in charge of the National Guard’s airbase, said: “If the roads become clogged we could use local law enforcement to create a landing zone on a local roadway.” Ready to go on a moment's notice, the guard has a Blackhawk helicopter, and two smaller helicopters, in Salem, and another Blackhawk in nearby Prineville. I am going to be most interested in reports of road block/ traffic jam etc as this develops. Please post here as we are outside the news coverage except for the (cr@p) that passes for the "National News" lie machine. Thanks in advance.
Well this guy will never make full bird Col, if the roads are clogged, where are you going to make the landing zone, and why, did something happen to the 1,000's of airports in the United States? Rancher
I hate going to Carbondale on a normal day. A herd of wild bulldozers could not push me into freaky people snowflake land on Eclipse day Number of people heading to Southern Illinois for the 2017 eclipse is anyone's guess
What was the story, I think by Jay Silverstien, about the world where every hundred years, the entire population went mad and burned all their belongings?
I saw a few doom videos and the eclipse will set the end of times in motion. It seemed like hysterical speculation to me.
Salem Air Port has both National Guard, and Reserve, as well as a detachment of my buddies from the Air Force SAR on stand by. I am staying with in spitting distance of the Helo Squadrons as we speak! They always have 4 Black Hawks in rotation with four more in reserve, the reserves have 4 +4 and a pair of CH-47's were added 2 weeks ago. They also boosted the fuel pool of mobile fuel and support units from 6 to 10 and brought in additional personal on alert for heavy rescue and support! In addition, they also have the A.F. Reserve Heavy Mountain Rescue Unit in place as part of the Clackamas County Sheriffs office and the fire crews moved in water equipment to back up the Redmond Hot Shot Fire crews! I would say this is a pretty good indication of what they are expecting road wise! Will keep you updated as things progress, or change! I would expect to see more air craft move to Salem from Portland and up from K-Falls, including air mobility transport teams of aircraft and personal! I hear rumors of teams moving in from Joint Base Luis McCord to further boost Assets!
Locally expecting one million in Myrtle Beach and another one million in Charleston. Hospitals are gearing up for day after eye damage and day of traffic accidents. Ham radio statewide repeater network will be active and the state EOC activated. Also hearing rumors of terror attack possibility due to the concentration of people, but nothing credible.
@Ura-Ki are they expecting an attack? Or a black lives matter moment? Seems overly militaristic to me.
Anyone on the road then better be packing enough food, water and gas to sit overnight, then GTHOOD without needing to stop at a gas station.
These guys in Salem are mainly a Medivac/Mountain Rescue units, and bolstered by the A.F. out of Portland and Kensley so they are more central to any action. I saw two more mobile heavy duty off road fuel trucks show up and and park, so I am guessing it's for additional air assets yet to come! I have not seen any extra training out side the normal winch training that they are always doing! The little birds were up doing what ever they do, but nothing out side the norm, just the increase numbers of air craft and crews. I am told they are mobilized for a major traffic snarl or fire evac, but likely called up for rescue ops for lost or stranded hikers in the mountains trying to get the best views and unprepared for the conditions!!!
Thought the same.....WTF, Over!!! Nothing like wasting our tax money so .goob can practice their Martial Law preps.
And if they waited for the call-out? If something does happen - like an out of control 'campfire' - the .mil crowd would be publicly damned for being clueless/lazy/so stupid so as have missed the 'obvious'....
Damn, how stupid of me to not know that the .mil crowd are all trained fire fighters... NOT FIRE FIGHTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.mil choppers saved my city from burning down last summer. .mil chopper carries SAR/PJs to pick up lost/injured hikers, premie babies and so on. .mil choppers with NVG (thermal imaging) support State Troopers pretty often. Gotta bomb? Call Ft Rich EOD Got a flood and must move supplies - AK Nat Guard and on and on.
Comprehend what I said about your post #14 and why they are really there....."NOT FIRE FIGHTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".
Oh...I'm semi relieved. Wouldn't wish folk dead before their time, but that prophet's predictions have'nt a good success rate. I hope he was a better sailor than a religious prognosticator.
I agree. Oregon put out a fire ban two days ago (I think) so camp fires are a no-no. I think they are there because Oregon has had a lot of demonstrations and this will be a huge crowd. Sadly I think the BLM and antifa crowd will use this gathering of people to continue their antics.
In some twisted way.....I hope they continue their outrageous acts. It just continues to shed the light on the hypocrisy of the left and the media, trying to ignore what these folks are up to. Even the sheep are starting to realize that the left wing is dangerous to our nation.
