Man Chello, You on a roll buddy! I have been doing the fightin Axes with Ball Peen hammers for a few years, Never thought of using a wrench, I have plenty of them around here to play with. I specifically do old school Ships Boarding Axes, kind of like a T-Hawk, but with longer handles. Watch Master and Commander or Black Sails to get an idea about how useful and deadly these can be!
I like the long metal shank. It helps keep the head on the shaft if parried by a similar bladed weapon, and it also helps reduce the shaft's vulnerability to splitting and shearing if the head experiences a hard impact.
