I bought quite a few cans of cheese years ago. I have no idea of the shelve life and the printing on the bottom makes no sense. Most would say eat it and see if it is any good, but I would like to avoid possibly eating bad cheese. It has a pull top and the sides are brownish. On the bottom is ABAJAJ 23:59.
What kind of cheese? Most hard and semi hard cheeses don't have a shelf life, they have a half life. I'd pop a can open and check for color, smell, texture, etc..
That's what it looks like when its first made. I think you would know by smell and taste if it were bad.
A quote from the National Cannery Association: (Australia) “Canned food has a shelf life of at least two years from the date of processing. Canned food retains its safety and nutritional value well beyond two years, but it may have some variation in quality, such as a change of colour and texture. Canning is a high-heat process that renders the food commercially sterile. Food safety is not an issue in products kept on the shelf or in the pantry for long periods of time. In fact, canned food has an almost indefinite shelf life at moderate temperatures (75° F and below). Canned food as old as 100 years has been found in sunken ships and it is still microbiologically safe! We don’t recommend keeping canned food for 100 years, but if the can is intact, not dented or bulging, it is edible.” The author of this blog post went on to say she was eating Red Feather Butter which was canned 13 years ago.
I suggest bacon flavored Ritz. They are so good with cheese wiz you will forget its all made from chemicals in a nuclear reactor
Hardtack is always good, but does that now mean that @Motomom34 's blow out cheese bash is BYOB (bring your own bacon)? What I wouldn't give for some seasoned Ry-Krisp...
Each company will have a different way of encoding their product Dates.... These are ALL, Required to be registered with the FDA, and available for Public Inspection, at their Home Office.... On our Canned Salmon we use a Julian Date, Year, Plant Designation, Production Period, and Canning Line...
I am happy that I still have years before I have to worry. I like these little cans of cheese because they are the perfect size for making a batch of cheese sauce-
Lol you don't need to be able to read the code because, as 3M says, it's all made from chemical waste! That stuff never goes bad.
