My son carried a shotty when he didn't carry his SAW. When I asked him why, he answered like this
"The people I shoot with this STAY dead."

Still, hard to beat a SAW when not poking around in buildings and graveyards...

 

I'll vouch that this is accurate. The Army made the troops hide their weapons so as not to be frightening the locals.

The Marines showed everything and usually had a couple of contract MD-500 Helos in the air with a door gunner (M-240G) and a Grunt. If attacked, the Marines would unass the trucks and rush the fire, the birds would drop off (all 4 or 8 air-carried troops) as a Blocking Force. They endeavored to kill everyone in the attacking force. It was a lesson quickly learned by the hajis.

My son was clever enough to avoid mentioning this part of his time in the sandbox until a couple of years after he was out. His mother still had a fit just the same. I got to see the pics.
