Perzacklee da pernt. Every crisis that comes along, fire, flood, earthquake, whatever, some dot gov entity declares "mandatory" and no penalties accrue to those that ignore "mandatory." It's an MT and therefore useless waste of space and time. Worse, it's like a background buzz that simply gets put off anyone that hears it. So when something comes along that actually requires abandoning a location, no one is going to pay attention. Makes sense to me to put teeth in the mouth or close it.

Should I be worried about you? Now while we try and sober up @ghrit, it would be great to have the rest of our monkeys in the warning areas check in when they can.

Lets see, here in Myrtle Beach....The governor has pissed all the small business owners off by issuing evacuation orders today (Charleston) and tomorrow (Myrtle Beach) for a storm that is arriving Saturday. Schools let out yesterday until Tuesday.Millions of bottles of bottled water and almost as much bread and milk are gone from the store shelves. Idjits are buying generators and plywood and as much gas as they have containers for. (I will confess to buying some pimento cheese and a 2 liter Pepsi). And now, 3 nights from impact, I sit here thinking about how the emergency management folks have severely over reacted and how next time no one will listen. Especially now that we won't get much more than 40 mph winds.

Over reaction by .gov officials trying to make sure they don't Frick anything up prior to the upcoming elections. I am praying everyone gets off and Mathew moves out to sea.... Hillary is praying for a direct hit so as to create a nice distraction for the next couple of weeks.......

Well, it won't be a hurricane when it arrives on land, so STOP PANICKING! [LMAO]

The media has overplayed every storm this year, treating a heavy rain shower like a category 5 hurricane.

This time next week I'll think back on the weekend and see if I would have even known that Hurricane Matthew had passed this way, or if it just felt like the beginning of fall.

The departure of tourists was pretty much done at the beaches here by October 1 when locals and their dogs took over the beach.

Additional note, FWIW. My sister is in the low country as well, and weathered Hugo well enough that she isn't overly concerned. Well prepared, too. She and a friend were in FL, were planning to stay the week until both FL and SC governor's went into panic mode. They decided to get home early, so joined the madding throngs northbound on Tuesday. The tourists may have gone home, but the natives are stampeding. So she gets home and goes to the groc shoppe just for the amusement of people watching and to pick up a wedge of cheese to go with dinner, and there is NO milk, NO bread, and NO batteries left on the shelves. I gave her a load of crap for contributing to the traffic snarls. Compounding the problem was that one of the north bound lanes on Rt 17 is closed and NO ONE knows why. It is to laugh.

@Motomom34 , the Final Safety Analysis for those nukes addresses extreme 'canes along with other hazards up to and including a direct hit by the largest aircraft known at the time, fully laden and fully fueled. They might shut down, but the main systems won't be damaged by a 'cane. Any article titled with a question mark is usually pure hooey, and intended to spark up noise.

Glad to hear it because after this article: CleanEnergy Footprints » Archive » What if Hurricane Matthew Hits Florida’s Nuclear Reactors? Makes me think twice about nuke facilities.

    the ending sumup is
"Hopefully nothing in Florida or elsewhere is affected. We hope everyone stays safe. But as we face more and more such challenges, it’s imperative that we become more energy resilient in the face of climate change. Thankfully there are answers - smart energy choices can keep the lights on!"

    they don't tell us anything

It's better to have and not need than need and not have... I hope that it follows the expected track but this past week we had 5+ inches of rain... rivers are high, the ground is saturated... I expect there to be downed trees and power lines... and although not shown by WITN there are still tracks that bring it closer to land and at least one that has it coming through eastern NC... so I guess it depends on how much you believe the weather folks... As for me this is one of the reasons I prep...
    YMMV

Lucky me, my TV station has one of the best meteorologists in the country....He says Myrtle Beach impact would be 3-5" of rain and 35-40 mph gusts. Now for the news, there is food on the shelves and enough State Troopers, State Guard, National Guard, and SLED agents here to start a war with a small country. The cops kinda make me nervous because the response does not match the threat.
