When the gun store owner tells us, unfiltered by special interest groups, what the shooter actually bought, I'll believe it wasn't an AR. Until then, all the other "reporting" organizations, from rumor mills to the cop shops, can all sit down and STFU.
BOHICA it is apparent what they want and they will not stop until they succeed. I told my sons you better get 'em before you can not.....
The average person won't know the difference between the two and won't care. What they do know is: Rifle looks military/scary Large magazines Fires rapidly IMO, we won't gain any traction by pointing out the difference, even if that's what the coward used.
I wrote this on a very liberal political forum I frequent as a reality check. It did result in some people asking about other solutions. I was surprised, because facts are usually ignored. "There are an estimated 347,000,000 guns in the US, and there are about 11,000 homicides committed by guns. Of these 11,000 homicides, about 250 are from all rifles combined, which includes an AR-15. There is an estimated 253,000,000 passenger vehicles in the US, and there are about 10,000 people killed by drunk drivers each year. Think about it this way - you are 40 times more likely to be killed this year by a drunk driver than by a rifle, including a nutjob or jihadist with an AR-15, AK-47, etc.. Maybe you should be thinking about banning cars instead of guns, since we have no guaranteed way of keeping a drunk from driving one. The loss of any life is tragic, and those killed by drunk drivers are just as valuable as the lives killed by a gun."
Why do I get the impression that the reason politicians are pushing for more gun controls is because they fear for their continuing position in power? Only a leftist would believe they actually worry about the safety of the average American hoi-polloi.
People are afraid - if they can limit their fear to one thing that some people have and is easy to identify, they don't have to fear the human beings who may be evil but cannot be easily identified.
Not only that, their fear of others is frequently a projection of themselves. In other words, people who are likely to violently lose control fear that others will do so as well. Note that the more emotionally driven a person is, the greater the tendency to lose control. IMO this is the communication challenge between rational and emotionally driven people - neither side an understand what drives the other.
I was watching Bill O'Reilly last night, here is what he said- What’s going on? Another Fox News host calls for assault weapon ban after Orlando massacre It was one of those evenings of yelling at the TV. O'Reilly lost my respect a long time ago. I am done with that wife abuser.
It gets worse: Trump to meet with NRA about banning gun sales for terror watch list He just lost my vote.
I have several thoughts on the increasing prevalence of mass shootings. The first might belong under a conspiracy theorists thread but the second is just as likely. Are some/many of these newsworthy shootings false flag events? We know that the government would prefer that its citizens be disarmed and what better way than to create an environment where those who take everything at face value agree with what they are being fed - the weapon is the enemy and not the perpetrator. Another thought is that the terrorists of the world are using the very same tactic to disarm us, increase our vulnerability, make us weak, even weaker than we already are. These terrorists, whatever their allegiance, need a compliant society unable to defend ourselves. Our freedom to own and use firearms is not in THEIR best interests. What better way to disarm America than to convince a large segment of our population that the very weapon our forefathers encouraged us to maintain, for not only for our personal defense but for the defense of our country and its principles, is the root cause of our downfall. People aren't going to be convinced of this by individuals deaths, even though they exceed the more spectacular "mass" shootings.
"Gun dealers all across America should be required to report the sale of certain kinds of guns — heavy weapons — directly to the FBI,” O’Reilly said." What the Hell? Did I read this correctly? Is he saying or even implicating that the Sig Sauer MCX shooting a 5.56 round that was used in the massacre is a 'heavy weapon?' Is that what he is advocating? What is he advocating here? Another run at an 'Assault Weapons' ban? Sorry, Billy boy but you and I are finished. Let's blame the gun and not the gunner. Does this guy even know what he's talking about? Heavy weapon? My friend, who is a true genius but lacks common sense said something like this and I had to explain the Mini-14 and many other semi-automatic rifles and pistols to him and afterwards I asked the question, 'So, what is an Assault Weapon?" He said he would consider all firearms Assault Weapons based on what I told him and his knowledge of the different wars where many a soldier 'assaulted' the enemy with even bolt action rifles...and bayonets (Oh, let's not forget them) @chimo "He just lost my vote." Oh great...so we get Hillary instead who will, without doubt protect, our 2nd Amendment.
Sorry, I am a single issue voter...if you don't understand the concepts of liberty and freedom, you don't get my vote. One's views on our right to bear arms, as well as other rights like free speech, due process, privacy, etc. is an indicator of their understanding of freedom and liberty. Trump is blowing it...blame him for compromising his principles, don't blame those who refuse to do so. Trump best convince me fast that he had not thought through his tweet, that he understands the danger to more than just our right to bear arms when you start restricting people's rights based on star-chamber blacklists with no due process dictating inclusion, appeal and exclusion.
So thinking about voting for Gary Johnston. Maybe you should read this. What a POS. Libertarian nominee accepts rival’s gift of Washington replica pistol – then trashes it | Fox News A sentimental gesture made by one presidential candidate to another backfired this weekend following a contentious and drama-filled Libertarian Party convention. Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, who scored the party’s nomination, was gifted a replica Sunday of George Washington’s flintlock pistol by runner-up Austin Petersen. Tearing up at the close of the Florida convention, Petersen presented Johnson with the pistol as a symbol of party unity. “You have my sword, and you have my gun,” he said, as the nominee accepted the gift. But then, Johnson unceremoniously chucked it in the garbage can.
