For safety against the masses then yes I would agree. You rely on yearly shipments but what about when those shipments stop. I recall reading this article:
Why Vegetables Get Freakish In The Land Of The Midnight Sun While a 35 pound broccoli is impressive, like all the rest of us, Alaskans would depend on a decent growing season. What about growing grains and stuff. Or are you planning on forging plant foods from trees and wild plant life?

I almost think our friends(@Hanzo @Bear ) in Hawaii may be in a good place. Currently there are a lot of people that live on the islands but the Islands seem to provide a lot of natural food, i.e. the fruit trees, there are animals, fish and salt beds. IMO once you get rid of the bad guys, an island community may be quicker to re-establish a type of society again.

Move to Florida and then the Tsunami washes you away. Can't cover everything. Lightning strikes, fault lines, nuclear reactors, high population density, wild fires, drought, rainfall, waterways, tornadoes, hurricanes, mud/landslides, salt access, etcetera etcetera etcetera. Could drive yourself insane trying to find out that there is no perfect place. I say do "Priority 3". Priority 3 is choose the 3 most advantageous things to you and there you are. Besides nature will nature on. People learn to adapt. The man-made problems are what get you.

Priority 3. Now you have me thinking. It is hard to pin these three down. Is that 3 during normal times or three should collapse happen? Those three are very different. Collapse could never happen.

Everyone's circumstances, capabilities and needs are so different that there is no one solution that will suit all individuals, or cover all contingencies; and remember, Murphy's law will probably discover or expose a risk or vulnerability that had not been covered in your risk analysis and contingency planning.

The best place is that which:

Exposes you to the least number of credible risks that may end your life or severely limit your survival prospects

    Is sustainable in all seasons,

Has a good growing season, or the capacity to allow for intensive food production under glass or indoors under adverse growing conditions,

Enables you to earn a self supporting income in good times and when times are tough,

Has adequate local infrastructure to meet your health, educational, social, transport, equipment / vehicle and farm machinery maintenance. needs,

    Has accessible fuel supply/distribution,

Serviced by reasonable all weather / all season roads,

Has adequate rainfall and infrastructure for water catchment and storage,

Has a local community that tends to be self reliant and mutually supporting,

Is away from likely corridors of refugee drift,

Is away from likely military installations, or economic targets that would be high probability conventional/nuclear targets,

Is not in a location with a history of extreme weather events like tornadoes, cyclones, flooding, forest fires etc

Does not have a significant population with endemic drug / crime / unemployment problems,

Not downstream of major water impoundments which may flash flood if dam walls fail, or there is a sudden release of water,

etc etc etc..... find the best solution that satisfies the greatest number of critical criteria that will offer the best probability of surviving the broadest range of credible risks. Be prepared to make compromises and come up with workarounds and contingency plans when planning criteria conflict with each other....good luck!

You would be smack in the middle of Portland potheads going to California to search for El Dorito and Californians escaping their socialist paradise for more handouts up North. Too bad, because Northern California and Southern Oregon are otherwise magical places.

In actuality, the best place to be is where you think the best place to be is .. But get there before the collapse.
You should already be part of the community.
You should already know your neighbors.
Your garden spot should already be in.
You should already have fuel / water / shelter.

If not? What are you waiting for.
If you intend to bug out at the last minute, you're going to be joining thousands of others hitting the road. Do you think you'll actually make it to your perfect location? Will you be welcomed there?

The wise choice would be .. head there now and live it.

Anyone find that 'Carver Matix' that was posted a while back? I think @melbo posted it. It was a matrix that you could assess your weak points on a location. ofc I could have the name wrong

I agree you should be where you intend to be post SHTF, however for most ,the ability to acquire that get away is a bit illusive .
And so is the speculation as to when or what is actually going to go down.
Many areas people hope to run to, don't presently allow squatters . Know what I mean ??
After the quake in Big Bear in "92" a family moved to florida and endured a serious storm there , so they moved to Hawaii and endured another one .
No one know's where they went after that.
Run chicken run, OR be the mother hen and rooster and look out for your brood.
Even turtles kill one another tuning the other on it's back.
No one is going to survive with out learning aggression and that's a fact.
