was at my ants getting some fire wood for her and saw an old copper apple butter kettle with stand in the back of her small barn and told her if she wanted to sell it I would buy it and low and behold it she said she would sell it to me for 200.00 well I like to broke my hand getting my wallet out of my purse and paid for it. it is very old but still in good shape and this year I think apple butter will be canned at my house yummy. kettles like this one -40 gallons-go for almost 3 times used what I paid for this one
When we lived in Northern Nevada, we had a number of dwarf apple trees. The wife used to make apple butter and can it. It was some of the most delicious substance on the planet's face. She gave a lot of it away, and got numerous compliments. So it wasn't just me.
Awesome @marlas1too lucky you. I love apple butter. Do you grow your own apples or will you need to buy them?
right down the road -- one mile-- is some huge orchards apple.pear, peach’s,nectarines, and plums so i can get loads and I’m going to look into pear butter too
I love pears. Dehydrated pears are one of my favorite snacks. Keep us posted this fall when production begins. I only make apple sauce so someone making apple butter will be interesting, I do not think anyone in my family makes apple butter so I wonder how time consuming it is.
@marlas1too Can you post a photo of it because I honestly never saw one before. I haven't had apple butter since I was a kid and going to talk to the wife today about making some, have to find a good recipe first as obviously she's never had it before.
Nor I. 40 gallons won't go on the average kitchen range. Sure do like apple butter tho'. One thing to be aware of, copper pots were often soldered together with lead solder, not so nice these days.
Does it take a special pot to make it? Why does it have to be copper? Photo is pretty small so I can't tell. I will Google around and see if I can find one.
Yikes, these things are expensive! I guess it's because their solid copper. Here a photo of one for $850 on eBay. Why do they have to be copper? Looks like a normal big pot just copper...
