Goodbye Apocabox...

The last box they released was just horrendous...the quality of the items in it got an F...Failure.
The two items which they claimed were worth the majority of the cost of the box both broke for me...The fire piston didnt work due to poor quality in the tube and the rod and the aboriginal awl which is supposed to be made of high carbon steel broke at the tip while i was awling a tree to create a ojibwa bird snare...I am not happy about this...and I expressed by self so in this video...

Sounds like a Crap of the Month club for preppers to divide them from their money. Same story with the Survival Kits. Maybe a useful item, though the rest is garbage. I'd rather piecemeal my gear as I know exactly what I'm getting. Good to get reviews on these companies.

 

The consumer must apply common sense.

Or end up with a bunch of expensive useless junk.

Having looked at the content lists of some of the boxes, the individual items are far more expensive than for comparable items sourced from alternative suppliers. They also contain gimmicky stuff that have little actual survival value, or are only of much use in a very limited range of circumstances.....

for example,

If I can't find a pocket sized notebook and pencil for less than A$1 I'm not trying hard enough. Though to be fair, the blurb does contain one interesting tip.....

I'd be recommending the 9H grade pencil...a 9H would wear down a tad slower than a 9B pencil.

Best to be identifying what you actually need for your survival kit, and then buying individual components, paying reasonable prices for the best quality that you can afford. Build up your kit on the basis of "good", "better", "best" quality metrics, and upgrade as opportunity and finances permit.



Good = Will do the job satisfactorily, can be expected to last, with care in most circumstances, may not have as many features as better, or best examples of its type.

Better = Will do the job more than just satisfactorily, is robust, requires little maintenance, may not have as many features as best quality products, but is more versatile, and has some additional useful features missing from "good" or base grade products.

Best = Can be expected to do the job superbly, saving time, effort or other having other highly beneficial capabilities; Is robust and requires minimal maintenance; Is very versatile and offers greater practical utility than "good" and "better" grades of gear and equipment.

 

I do the upgrade thing. Had a bag, got a better bag and now the older bag is put up for future barter. It was just an ACU backpack anyways so now I have a Molle rucksack. Same with crank radios and the like.

 

I have quite a bit of hunting gear for the same reasons. I upgrade as I can, and loan out or outfit several other hunters each hunting trip. On average, I provide for about 6 hunters, who show up with just their weapons and coolers.

 

As common sense is so uncommon, a license might be required...

No, but one does need a tax stamp....

 

Thank you for your comments on your Apocabox. Have you e-mailed Creek? They are good at responding and I think your feedback would be appreciated. I know many receive the box and I have never read a complaint.

I wouldn't have wasted a half pound of perfectly good Accurate 2460 setting it on fire. A couple ounces of regular gas would have done just as well for a lot less.

 

Never tried that service, still stick to good small gun shops, hardware stores and yard sales etc. Most bang for my buck, help people I like, and see it before I buy it. Not really into buying something delivered, perhaps, from China over the net.

With firearms, I buy what I want and hunt for the best price. Unfortunately, prices of firearms I am interested in have increased beyond what I am willing to pay.

 

yup exactly my feelings...I haven't been so happy with all the stuff in it, and having these break on me kinda put me over the edge to say something about it...

Good tools or equipment are easy to find. The problem is too many sites sell crapola to the unsuspecting. People trying to do the best for themselves and their families.

It isn't you going over the edge. It is you telling others I wasted my hard earned money; take my advice and don't waste yours.

 

I have a received a bit(minority of people) of flack for my review on this...I sadly must agree with you that a lot of these youtube channels are just getting handouts from companies and giving good reviews of the gear. There seem to be less and less of the honest reviews of gear and more of the corporate puppets sponsoring their items to all their subscribers...Dont get me wrong free gear is fine, but if it comprimises your ability to give an honest review...thats when you have crossed

Well, phorisc, I think you're more than justified in dumping Apocabox, but what shocked me silly was the size of that freakin' (alleged) fire piston.

Holy McMoeley, does it pump truck tires up, too?

Don't those guys know that fire pistons should be small, so you aren't trying to compress a huge volume of air?

Yeah--I'll disconsider Apocabox, all right. Big time.

BTW, that awl probably broke because it was high carbon steel--and in their rush to make the big bucks they hardened the hell out of it after it was forged and then didn't bother to temper it properly.

So it's no wonder it was as brittle as glass and just as breakable.

 

I donno if my opinion would hold much weight. It isn't just the quality of the two items in this box, I feel the other items are not that high quality...if I felt there was something to reconcile i'd make an attempt, but I think the quality just isn't there...they market it as a great deal...but I feel the value of the items is not up to par with what they are charging...hope that makes sense... I do like what creeks teaching and the skills he includes...just the merchandise/tools arent where i'd expect them to be.
