I know pretty much everybody here has firearms for home and personal defense, and possible TSHTF scenarios, but what else do you have your guns for? For me, my guns aren't just defense tools, they're also the main ingredient in my recreation. What kind of recreational activities do you do with your guns? Due to limitations in the poll, I obviously couldn't list everything here, so please go into more detail in your post.
I'll Start: 1) Recreational Target: I like practicing with my "combat" guns 2) Hunting: Doves are my favorite. Geese and Ducks Pheasant and Quail (rarely chukkar) Rabbit Squirrel Deer Turkey I intend to add wild boar to the list. 3) Sporting Clays, Skeet, and Trap: Skeet and trap only occasionally, but I LOVE sporting clays. For anyone who has not tried it, I cannot possibly recomment it enough. It's like golf with a shotgun. 4) Cowboy Action: I haven't done it competitively yet, but that will soon change as I just moved to an area with a club. TOTAL BLAST! Wouldn't mind getting into some practical pistol competition (revolver division). But I'll probably never get the time to work it in.
I like to punch holes in paper, kill old mowers, and shit like that. Now, hunting is cool when I get to go. Lately reloading has been the poison of choice though.
Trap as often as possible, usually every week. Informal paper punching whenever I can shake out a couple hours to go to my buddy's place for a while. (Over an hour away, and I hate the NRA range in Waples Mill Rd.)
I shoot flying fish from the bow of the Lana Rose when I'm at sea. I try to shoot paper and clay in as many competitive ways as I can time-manage. I love to shoot tin cans with bad attitudes. Tannerite now has it's own budgetary allowance. Numerous ballistic experiments involving jellyfish and various weapons have been conducted recently.
I'll trade you a bunch of flying fish for one good dump full of rats. The nice thing about plinking is that you just turn whatever is around into an impromptu target.
"Tannerite now has it's own budgetary allowance."-Seacowboys That ought to be your new sig line. phishi
hehe, I agree! Interesting results so far, almost everybody hunts. Not a single skirmisher or re-enactor yet. CRC does the pirate thing, that would qualify as a historical re-enactment I believe.
OOOOH! POST IT! I'd love to make some of that stuff. hehe... my dad blew off 2 fingers with a homemade black powder cannon. I've still got all my fingers..... for now.
i have shoot a few ipsc matchs, didnt like the people so i stopped going , now i shoot informal with a few select friends. bowling pins are fun with pistols, speed matchs, golf balls are great with a .308 at a couple hundred yards, old peices of clay pigons are fun to. gonna go and watch a 3-gun match soon as i can to see what it's like , and the rest of the time letting others play with my toys just to watch their faces. Weps Out!!
I DO, I DO, I DO!!! i have been a proud member of the 13th VA Cav., 4th TN inf., and at times the 2ND RI (but don't tell anyone, blue wool makes me itch) i'm looking for a new unit haven't done art. yet and i just met a boatswains mate who is in the Norfolk light art. so i might try them i own a colt navy 44. and a endfield musktoon(real short musket for cav.) looking to buy a sharps when i can afford it... i have to stop now or i'll be here all night! oh, ya this is all civilwar would loveto do WWII or REV. but all to $$$
I feel the same... I'm a history nut and a gun nut, put the two together and I'm in heaven. If I had the money I'd have my own museum of historic arms (and I'd shoot every one
Mostly recreational shooting, but I've done my fair share of comp shooting and hunting. "Informal" competition: It's kind of nice to compete in a "friendly" way with friends. The only thing you'll win is "bragging rights", but that's enough! I got out of "formal" competitive shooting when the fully-sponsored guys started taking over, and made it way too expensive and time-consuming to keep up with.
we have zombie shoots , heres how it works life size targets are set 25, 50, 100 yds each target is allocated 3 rds if the first round is a head shot it's 50 pts at 25yds each miss is -5 pts all other head shots are 3pts body shots are 2 pts the 25 yd target is shot with handguns 50 yds if the first shot is a head shot it's 50 pts each miss is minus 10 pts all other head shots are 25pts body shots 5 100 yds if the first shot is a head shot it is worth 100 pts misses are -50 pts body shoots are 10 pts now go forth and defend the world from the undead .of course this all unofficial
