I have AR that does that and it is a very nice feature. Sight it in, mark its position and add "glasses;" it's truly the best of both worlds. Personally, I've preferred optics since I was a kid and received a JC Hiiggins by Marlin 22 Mag with a Ted Williams 4X for Christmas.
No tractor trailer needed. Just put wheels on the bipod and a pintle hitch on the butt stock and use your average garden tractor.
We used to buy them for $18 from the NRA-DCM at Letterkenny Army Depot off Rt 11 north of Chambersburg, PA. We couldn't afford a commercial rifle. I mowed lawns, shoveled snow and pulled thistles in a cow pasture for .50 a bundle to build it. I bought a Douglas supreme barrel and for over 50 years it shot sub-moa with reloads. It has loosened up so I'm going to re-barrel it in 25-06. If you want to feel sad? The local car parts place sold them for $30 and the display was a galvanized trash can. Edit: Add AI for Ackley Improved to the 25-06
Those days are long gone. 1911-A1s were $25. I use to hang out with a FFL. In the early 2000s, three of us bought a case of 6 AK-74s; cherry picked them and he sold the rest at gun shows. Under $200 for a SAR II and 1000 rounds. Those days are gone also.
I run Colt LE6920 M4s for myself, my family and my extended group. It ticks all the boxes for a Tier 1 weapon and can be found for around $1100.
@melbo No length of barrel or trigger categories? As the 5,56's terminal ballistics are velocity dependent; I lean towards 18".
