I'm a loner and usually stay away from anything social such as blogs and forums but I found this site interesting. It is different and unique and I'm not sure why. I can tell that there are many knowledgeable people that contribute to this site and I'm sure I can learn from your experiences. Hopefully I can add value to this site and tell you about the mistakes I've made and how not to repeat them. About me? Patriarch of an arctic neanderthal clan that is surviving through subsistence in a modern world. My wife thinks its more like Homer Simpson and family existing in backwoods redneck Alaska. I'm from Alaska originally. Joined the Navy and saw the Globe. Was kicked out of the Naval Nuclear Power Program. Went to the Republic of Panama and did the Marine/Army thing for three years before/during/after the overthrow of the Noriega regime. Then went to Gulf War One and searched ships for weapons of mass destruction. Went to the Caribbean and searched ships for drugs. After that was college; BS Chemical Engineering. Returned to my roots in Alaska and lived in a cabin pretending to be Jeremiah Johnson. This was awesome until I accidentally became married and my bride demanded running water. Did a lot of remote construction/oil jobs to support my family. Now after four children we live on an old homestead trying to exist as independently as possible. Firewood, gardening, fishing, hunting, reloading, canning, etc. Trying to teach our children the skills they will need to thrive wherever they decide to live.
Welcome aboard! Hope you enjoy your time here and we can learn from one another! BTW, sounds like we shared time-in-country on more than one occasion... Semper Fi
