When I was young, I was stronger, smarter, and faster. Now, with 32,703,129,012 miles under my belt (rotations around the Earth and the Sun), I'm tougher, wiser, and crankier.

@Ganado, isn't doing stupid things once in a while part of what makes life interesting?

When I was young I strapped on a gun and went forward to do good. I still wear the gun but now know the fight will never end and the puppies' annoy me because they haven't figured out that it will never change.

Its still been a very exciting life.

When I was young,... dirt was the new up and coming medium of expression, then we found mud and after plants started growing things really took off. Next came drawing on cave walls, but that mostly the rich kids. Of course the Geico gecko was 30 feet long and not nearly as cute, and most small reptiles were about the same, you really din't want to see the big ones. Most of North America was under water. No one was bullet proof, we were more concerned with arrow and spear proof. Fur was the current fashion, if you didn't come with your own, you killed and skinned something to wear it. My calendar read "Kill something and eat it. Don't get killed and/or eaten. Don't go hunting with anyone who can run faster than you when being chased by small reptiles."

Now? Now my calendar says "Don't forget to... can't remember, what am I doing here or here after? Go back to bed. Unzip fly FIRST when going to bathroom. If bathroom light comes on when you open the bathroom door, check to make sure it isn't the fridge. If nothing hurts, call doctor, you might be dead! Try to do something nice for someone, even if it's only not telling them what you really think. If you can't say anything nice about any one, come over and let's talk! Remember, no one gets out of here alive. No one remembers a nice guy, but that guy who screwed up big time will be remembered forever. You can't take it with you, so spend it now, while you can! The voice in your head that says you have enough ammo is just crazy talk."

When I was young, the earth rotated much slower, days lasted 24 hours, an hour was 60 minutes, and a minute was 60 seconds, all in real time. Now 24 hours is 1/24 the rotation of the earth and no doubt, the earth is rotating much faster. This is in evidence by the speed that time now flies by, not to mention the increased gravitational forces. I still have the muscle memory of slam-dunking a basket-ball but due to these increased gravitational forces, it is now out of reach. I could play guitar much faster, run faster, climb higher, hold my breath longer and dive deeper. Gravity sucks.

I can just feel my age gap here. Spent a lot of time inside, reading and watching t.v.. Don't get me wrong, I spent plenty of time outside, but always under guidance, and the rule was "Don't cut down, pick, or harm ANYTHING!!!". I come from a family of mechanics, hunters, and fishermen, and I can't make things, I have trouble hunting, and I haven't caught a fish in years.

None of my stories involve being rowdy or dangerous, or in the bush much. Had a bunch of "rough patches" growing up, just now really starting to get through them. Always been a history buff, got into "survival" around the time I was 8. Got into weapon based martial arts about a year later. Everyone always thought both of those things were "antimodern" and did everything they could to make it difficult for me to practice either. Following the above rule, I never got to really practice or get anything I really wanted to done. Built a fort one time from lightning struck oaks, and came home to find ashes because it "was an eyesore".
The worst thing you could be in my family was a combatant. Worse than hippies out here, and I know that because all of the hippies I run into at least respect my dedication. Ha. I grew up finding ways around them actively ordering the wrong kit to get me something "safer for the general public in the event I go on a rampage" instead of the actual kit I needed to pursue my Art safely. Grew up in something similar to the California "Assault" weapons bans: no high capacities, nothing that they might consider not a hunting gun (even though they never took me hunting!), things along that line. And never being clear about it, so that I understood the why, and got all what the f@@@ on them.

I suppose that everything that I am today is a result of unwitting rebellion on my part. Had the worst time making friends, and still do not have any trail buddies or crew to fall back on for most things.

Like I said, not sure what really to say on topic. I just brush over it here. Nothing good in the backstory. Haha.

On a slightly more pleasant note, I finally found were somebody stashed the first weapon I can remember buying for myself. I'll try and run a pic up of my first ax!

Just so ya'll know, I did have MY Hippy Phase... I lived in a Commune.... Was a Professional SkiBum.....and spent a couple of years, in what is NOW, the North Cascades National Park, before I returned to civilization, met and married AlaskaChick.... and became a "Recluse in Hiding" inside a Metropolitan City.... It only took Us, 17 years to escape, to the Alaskan Bush... and we have never looked back....

    When I was young...and dumb
I would ride with my dad on horseback chasing a pack of dogs on a hogs trail in the bottoms.
Later my older brother and I would go into the Sabine river bottoms alone armed with a baseball bat and a sack.
We would find a sow with piglets, Get on each side and run in at the sow, She would charge us, The one not being charged would run in and grab a piglet, We would leave with 2 piglets, Go out to the Stateline service station and sell the piglets for 5 buck's each!
We caught soft-shell turtles and sold them for a quarter! Bullfrogs we could get a dollar each at school for the science lab student's.
We fished, We where charged by Hog's just walking a trail, A slap in the snout with the bat sent them running!
We killed a thousand snakes, We were stalked by a bobcat, I saw a Black Panther running across a sand bar..and peppered him with a .410, I'm pretty sure at least 3 bb's hit him!
Now that I'm older some thing's have not changed!
I will still chase a wildcat in the wood's, I'm pretty sure that's dumb!
    Lol....
