Have a friend who is prescribed 3-5 cups of coffee a day for his problems with a fatty liver. That amount is also supposed to be good for the heart. I've heard that coffee is chock full of anti-oxidants and anti-carcinogens. Something like 211 different compounds, some so effective that just smelling the brew has a beneficial effect. Mostly I like mine fresh ground, fresh brewed, and I think I'll have another right now. Worst coffee ever? Starbucks. Tried it three times. One sip, one spit, and the rest in the trash, three for three.
Too many years of drinking Tool Pusher's coffee on the rigs pretty well ruined my taste buds for "fine"coffee so now its usually Folgers Classic or Maxwell House. On the weekends its Folgers French Vanilla. When the mood strikes, laced with a bit of Irish Cream otherwise it's black like my rifles
You guys! Somehow, some way, you are always able to bring women into the mix... Sheesh... That's why I respect you.
fresh ground Jamaican Blue Mountain in a French press with steamed milk and raw sugar, Black, instant, iced, in red-eye gravy, ice-cream, with sweetened condensed milk, warm, luke warm, day old, with a friend...I guess I just like coffee...
Personally, I cannot stand the taste of coffee, or hot tea. (An ice cold glass of sweet iced tea now, that's another story.) When I was young and learning how to drive semi-trucks, the old fella who taught me said two things I would be doing straight away, would be smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. During my entire trucking career, I never touched either. Until this day, I have yet to drink a drop of coffee. Can't stand the smell of it in the room, even. Drank my fair share of Ol' Number 7, though, through the years. Don't even do much of that, anymore. When I have breakfast, here in Cambodia, I usually have lemon-aid, sweet iced tea, Royal D (I guess it would be similar to Tang), ice water, or fresh coconut juice. Just about ANYTHING, but coffee. From my last trip to the US last winter, I brought back a 52oz (1.5L) "Big Gulp" mug with a lid. It keeps drinks cold for a long time, without diluting them much. About the most useful thing I brought over, for daily use. Well, aside from a desktop computer I had built in the US, anyway. Funny how that happens, ain't it?
One of my students giftted me with two bags of coffee today... Dark Koloa Estate and Ka`u! Guess I'll be grinding and French pressing some Ka`u in my near future. SWEET!!
This morning's coffee is a hand crafted small batch of 100% Ka`u dark roast. The beans are larger than Kona and Kauai beans. And because it is Ka`u, I took it black, and not bulletproof blended. Nice and strong. Maybe a bit strong for the wifee, but she can always add half&half.
Another lover of Jablum... I really like about 3/4 Blue Mt. 1/4 Ka'u ground fine and slow dripped. Usually just a touch of sweet cream... I got a wide base 20oz cup at Truckstop of America many years ago that will keep it warm for a couple hours...it's my EDC.
Speaking of, anyone else get royally pissed when something happens to their favorite coffee mug? I had one that I had used for years. Took it everywhere. One early morning I got distracted by one of my crew and left it on the bed of the truck. Drove about a block and remembered it. Got out, gone. Retraced my drive and found it ran over in the middle of the road Took me forever to find another one that I liked.
After having the Ka`u coffee hot and black yesterday morning, I made it iced in the afternoon. It was good both black and with half & half. Half & half one looked a little artsy. And this morning, I tried it bulletproof. Good every which way. Tomorrow, will try it blended with Kauai.
The coffee itself doesn't matter (long as it isn't McDonalds) so much as when and where. My perfect cup of joe: Day off Sun is just rising In a vehicle on my way to someplace fun or new Already miles from home Wife and dog Plenty of time Now THAT'S a cup of coffee...
In a duck blind, the first day of the season, when you can hear wings on the wind and it's minutes before shooting time and your with your best friend.
