Aloha Monkeys.... Thanks again for the kind words... @kellory and @Yard Dart ... Here's a video you will want to watch @phorisc ... Just uploaded it.... Have a great week all! Take Care and God Bless, Bear
@Bear is a randomly good guy! Actually, he is ALWAYS a good man. I hope I grow up to be half as good. Then I'll call it a success.
LOL... @Ganado .... excellent question! A video is worth a billion words.... and this one is pretty good and is the exact same knife.... Have a Merry Christmas! Take Care and God Bless, Bear
@Ganado ... good inquiry... They come in all different sizes for different size bowls, spoons, plates etc... here's a few with the Mora I made the sheath for in the picture for perspective.... Hope that helps.... Merry Christmas! Take Care and God Bless, Bear
LOL @kellory .... yeah.... think adze ... but for finishing work on smaller pieces requiring more control different radius allow for various cuts and shapes....
spoke shave draw knife. (I have several of these. I collect old woodworking tools) I may need to find and add a couple hook knives to the collection.
Just like an adze can have several shapes, so can draw knives. I would think " end shave" is a local knickname. It does not Google.(I checked to see how similar it could be.)
I always liked these carving knives and tools... shapes seem more lively than just a straight blade... thought about forging a couple... forging the bevels and final sharpening is gonna be interesting Got a few old draw knives like @kellory and some other scrapers etc... at one time I fancied making bows... have a bunch of yew and osage orange staves in the shop that have been seasoning for 7-10 years.... LOL... Working with wood is pretty relaxing... How's your woodworking these days @Sapper John ?
Forge and bevel flat, semi sharpen, then bend and heat treat? Finish sharpen with a round stone? Hm, I know nuffin' jus' thinkin' out loud.
Not where I want it to be @Bear, life gets in the way sometimes and family members in need take a lot of my free time. Hoping to get started up again this spring, but not counting on it. It's the same thing I said last year.
@ghrit ... That would be one way... on a thinner blade, a single bevel, chisel grind, poses an interesting challenge when heat treating... it likes to warp more than an asymmetrical edge if you aren't careful... then add to that... the tool is already curved... I suppose the only way to find out... is to just try it....
