Love the kindling rack idea. That is really creative. I like the gardening ideas also. Seems like it would cut down on weeds. They do not seem to mortar the blocks together for the fence or compost pile plus other images.
A rather well to do individual within about four miles or so of my BOL is building a castle. His "gate house" is roughly the size of most smaller homes, 1300 sq ft or so. It has a solid huge wooden door about 4 or 5 inches thick that has got to weigh a couple of tons. He owns a string of medical supply houses in So Cal. Cool projects.
I think that they may use an adhesive....I don't know what the proprietary name is in the USA, but it is known as Bondcrete in Australia. Bondcrete FAQs
I loved the firewood one as well and I think @CATO posted a similar picture several weeks ago these are great pics and links! Miscellaneous — Building Plans
Some great ideas for working with blocks, but there is one thing I should mention. Usually a concrete block cracks after being in a fire. They last for maybe two or three burns at most. Anywhere the fire would directly touch them you need some kind of insulation like fireclay. Or a layer of firebrick to take the heat for the concrete, They do make blocks that are like firebrick--entirely flameproof--but they cost lottsa-bucks.
They also break if the pressure is too much, (guys get killed, when cars set on blocks fall) so don't overload the firewood hopper, or the block will split.
