This was posted over at THR...when I read it I spit a mouthful of coffee all over my laptop.

"I was having a discussion with someone about concealed carry, and he actually told me that based on his trainer's advice, who he said was a Special Ops person, he only carries 3 rounds in his Glock. The reasoning that he said his trainer gave him was that almost any encounter you have will be over in 3 rounds. If it isn't, then you're dead anyway and it's best to not leave a fully loaded gun behind for the bad guy to get a hold of and use to kill more people."

That is actually quite thought provoking. To me it says you better have practice and be cool under threat because you only have 3 chances to get safe. It does make sense but on the other hand more is better.

So...his spare magazines also have just 3 rounds each...so the perp can't scavenge too much ammo off the one dead body??? o_O

Makes as much sense as not being allowed to buy A single 32oz. Soda ( because soda is bad for you) but I can buy all the 16oz bottles I want......
I will carry every round I can cram into the bag. That way, if I fall, the next victim has a loaded gun to return fire with.

Makes as much sense as putting a bucks worth of gas in an empty tank when you have a spare twenty in your pocket. Me? I'm going 7+1 and a spare mag always and it's a good thing Wallyworld doesn't sell grenades.

Even us wheelgunners are scandalized by this. What I want to know is how much he charged him for a class!

That was one of my first thoughts...after I quit laughing and cleaned up the mess I made.

Dunno if anyone here as ever seen the beast, but one thing I learned from my own experience with the critter is that you can never have too much ammo.

Only a dollar-two-ninety-eight...obviously didn't want his students carrying around too much cash that a bad guy might get! ;)

What works for SpecOps, may NOT be such a "Good Idea" in other situations. I can see his Point, in his world, where he was trained.... The Bad Guys were almost as good of shots as the Good Guys, and very likely, any encounter, at Pistol Range, would be over in three shots. Either, the Good Guy, or the Bad Guy would be down. So in his world, this makes total sense. In our world, not so much... Encounters with Bad Guys, by a well Trained Pistol Shot, would likely be with an Inferior trained Thug, and usually he would have a host of Buddies with him. Going with the "One Shot, One Kill" theme, you would only get the first three, which certainly MAY cause the rest to run, but there is always the chance that the fourth, was .MIL Trained, and then would "Take you out'"... I carry a Browning HiPower in 9MM, with 13 Shots, when I need to carry.... Always have, and always will, because that is how I was Trained....

Can you imagine it? You have just snuck past the attacker, headed for the dropped gun of the last victim, you bound up and leap for that life saving tool, diving through the air, snag it, cock it, aim and ....click....click, click, click.....oh $h1t. (Lights out)

Not to be too cynical, but as a younger lady I quickly figured out that quite a few people say they're "special ops" and they often mean very different things than what is commonly thought of as "special ops". In fact, sometimes it means "I'm unemployed and figured you'd go out with me if I said I'm special ops."

I can understand the training value of having a random, indeterminate number of rounds in a magazine to practice trainees in reload IA drills; But every self defence shooting scenario is different, and it cannot be axiomatically assumed that an encounter will last at most, only 3 rounds exchanged. SWAT teams, and general duties police officers attend to their duties with fully loaded magazines (or cylinders as the case may be) with at least one, if not more magazines or speedloaders (in the case of wheel guns) for back up.

I do wonder whether the instructor travels on the short bus to the pistol range?
