So what did you put away this week?

16 bars of Dial soap, a hand held scanner and 2 ice chests from a yard sale. I use a lot of ice chests for storing things I don't want rodents getting in to. At yard sales I get them for 2 or 3 bucks and they are better then tubs or totes for storage. They are heavy duty storage, they are insulated and you can always use them for their intended purpose.

Got the final 55 gallons of diesel for my storage today. I have 165 gallons which should run my Kubota for 144 hours of gardening post SHTF, if an EMP or CME does not fry the tractor. Anybody have thoughts on hardening a Kubota L3800 or spare parts for a faraday cage storage. Alternator and starter are a couple of hundred each. What else?

Starter isn't likely to take any HIT from an EMP... They only have BIG wires, and not LONG ones, inside a Metal Enclosure. Diodes in the alternator, will be toasted, so buy a spare Set, and stick it in EMP Proof Storage. Same with any AVR in the Genend... find a way to Crank the Little Kubota by hand, if you can.... Diesels need NO Electricity to Run, if they are 100% Mechanical Injection....

Not been putting anything away really this past week, starting the Tae Kwon Do classes last Tuesday got me motivated to do some serious cleaning, tossing out loads of junk. And I found where the cats have hid my socks. And their litterbox spots in my room too. Found a receipt from 1998 and a calendar from 2010 under my bed as well.

I am a constant purchaser of a few items at a time.... If I go to the store and buy groceries, I also buy a few of this and that's which are designated for storage. Today I went to put away the last two weeks or so of these items and I had to laugh at what I had collected.... I might have a problem.

I found two 500 packs of .22, not even sure where I found it. A case of chili I previously mentioned, tuna, noodles and spaghetti, ice tea and lemonade packets, duct tape, flashlights and batteries, two ammo cans, and a rifle sling...... and a few other miscellaneous things.

Walking around a store the word I look for is "clearance" at the big box boys usually buried in the back on end caps never in front.

I make a habit of buying more than I need, like if I want two cans of chicken I buy four.. By the time winter blows in I have a good supply of food on hand and I usualy do not use it all through the winter. Also, when it hits that two year date I start eating it up and work on replacing it. However something always slips by.. Five year old zesty Italian dressing??...

How about some Folgers Coffee from 11-11-99?

I'm having a cup now, although it is being fortified by some hand ground French roast beans by 30%. Taste just fine as it still held its vacuum, being in a real tin can.
