She used a Pearson's Correlation Coefficient for the study, which is a very basic correlation test. Does X correlate with Y? Her test showed that as Glyphosate usage increased IN GENERAL, that Autism prevalence rates increased IN GENERAL. There is no 1 to 1 link between patient's Glyphosate usage and patient's diagnosis of Autism. There are no controls. There is just a simple correlation that has very little meaning. There are lots of other factors that have increased in general over this same time period. You could run the same Pearson's Correlation to point a finger and say Starbucks franchises are the cause of Autism, or Glyphosate usage is the cause of ISIS. Is Glyphosate bad, well it kills weeds... is that a good thing, or a bad thing.
and this is EXACTLY WHY, I hate the term "Scientist" on these WebSites..... This Babe has written a whole bunch of Sudo-Science, including LOTS of Buzz Words, that makes the Typing Head that wrote the Article, "Posted" think that it MEANS something... But if you do the Research into Her, and what Her Field Of Expertise is, you find that she is WAY out of Her Field, here.... and since her "Thoughts are NOT Peer Reviewed, by the MD, and PHD Phycologists, that have Standing in the Autism Field, she gets away with this kind of BS, and will likely never be Called on the Issues, with Her Publication, and the Statistical Relevance, of the Data....
There are no long term studies on GMO's either - a 3 month control test does on rats paid for by the very companies that want them approved? Much like "man made" climate change - a lot of the "Phd"s and "scientists" are bought and sold like politicians. If it kills weeds....do think it's a good thing to injest? Are you chugging a refreshing glass of Round-Up right now?
Why don't you hate it when the scientists that you DO approve of get caught with fabricated "peer review" and studies purposefully skewed to favor the funders of said studies?
Well you know before I started to use Glyphosate and 2,4D (agent orange) I used to spray my weeds with diesel, but I wouldn't drink that either. 2,4D is good stuff, kills broad leaf weeds and grass still grows. 2,4D is sold as Weedar 64 or also as weed-b-gone with additional stuff. Is diesel better... I don't drink either.
Do you get what I'm sayin? I'd prefer glyphosate and diesel NOT be in my food chain at the local big box grocery store.... At the very least - label it ALL.
"Earlier this spring, the World Health Organization came to a consensus that glyphosate is probably carcinogenic to humans after an extensive review of the evidence and scientific record." Monsanto is on its way out, thankfully. And "good science" vs. independent studies? What about how Monsanto is in bed with what we call "government"?
Then what do you suggest for use as an herbicide? As with everything in life there is risk involved no matter what you do or don't do. I'd really like to get your take on this.
Hydroponics. 1:10'th the water and no pesticide at all. The way we rip and strip the soil - there aint nothing left in it. Our ancestors managed without this crap.
You can rotate crops. Use no till. There are a ton of large scale methods of farming with no herbicides
Thanks - definitely like that for gardening. I'm an uncontrollable smart ass at times, so I have to point out that our ancestors simply used different crap, literally... OK, got that out of my system... What do you think in terms of holding back vegetation? I live in a jungle (not tropical) environment, and use herbicides to hold back the growth in areas difficult to keep clear manually. Glyphosate seems to be less and less effective, though perhaps they have been selling in increasingly diluted. Any suggestions there?
Spurious Correlations Sometimes correlations do. Sometimes they don't. I never said smoking doesn't cause cancer. To prove a hypothesis generally people look at multivariable data sets a carefully designed experiments that show interactions between variables. One of my favorite books is called how to lie with statistics. It seems that most political parties have also reality and use its tips to help push their specific agenda. BTW I like to use jmp for my stats work. I have used mini tab before but it is not as good imho.
I will look some more up but my stand my is vinegar dish soap and Epsom salt spray. .. is you need more than than I might could find some but haven't tried other stuff. Weed Control, The Organic Way | Rodale's Organic Life This is true organic but other than the meal and hand pulling I don't do much as I think it all works together. Just my opinion. And I don't have kids to worry about them grazing on some of the weeds you don't eat without prep
Unfortunately vinegar dish soap and epsom salt works like roundup, killing everything green. It's fine for small scale, but my ag sprayer neighbor can't load up his spray rig tanks with it unless the cotton farmer is just trying to collect on crop insurance. Nor can the guy with the crop duster who douses us a few times a year. Hydroponics is cute. So is aquaponics. I love my AP system. Now imagine trying to grow a few hundred thousand acres of wheat in it. Or corn. A field of cotton. How about peanuts or potatoes? That'll be fun trying to grow in water. Some crops don't lend themselves to hydro or ap. Don't get me wrong I wish the world would ditch the chemicals and go all natural too. Do it like my grandparents did, send the brats out to pull weeds and let the chickens eat the grasshoppers. Everyone have a garden in their backyard, community gardens on every empty lot. Wishes and wings and frogs bumping their asses though.
For cheap food ditch witch you could be right we may need to continue with chemicals. Or we will have to go back to growing our own Yes it does work like round up and I thought that was what he wanted was total kill. Did I miss something?
He said kill weeds. You mentioned large scale farming. Vinegar kills it all, and while I'd thrill to see it sprayed across every broccoli and brussels sprout patch from here to China, I doubt I'll ever be so lucky.
I'm not talking aboot people who have 50+ acres to deal with really....I'm talking aboot US - people on the monkey. Long week at work - will reply to others later.
