Hello from New York. Just real curious about off the grid living and wanting to do research and see if its possible for me. Hate how life is these days and just want to live in peace and quiet without judgment from others. Some stuff to know about me is I love working with exotic and wild animals and thats something I'll never give up.
Welcome aboard the tree, grab a banana and read up on your subject, there's plenty here. Happy T-day and cross your fingers until Cuomo is ousted.
If you were to live out here, you would certainly be OffGrid, and if you can make it thru the First Winter, no one will judge you, any different then the rest of us... The First Winter tells the tale.....
Hi Baily- I like what you wrote. Many of us seek the quiet life, judgement on our character and hard work vs. our material possessions or some other superficial thing. Welcome to the monkey.
Welcome, but what you seek, does not exist as an entry level opening. I don't want to rain on your parade, but you have a choice to make. You can be an easy going, helpful, knowledgeable, take care of the animals kind if guy, an asset to someone else's group, or you can live by your own rules, and make all your own decisions. But you can't do both without a serious amount of money for setting up your own kingdom. If you join someone's group, you will need to fit in and do things their way. If you strike out on your own, you will have to supply EVERYTHING yourself. Knowledge though, is both freely offered, and well worth the cost of admission. You can learn a great many things here, from those who know.
Thanks for the welcome I'm aware of the money aspect, everything costs money. I would save up big before I dive into something like this.
Start small with what you can do. Many of your PREPorations can be done with little money. I would suggest you start with skills that will stick with you for a lifetime. (Fire making, water acquisition {yes, it is a skill}, cooking, recognition of natural resources such as plants with good and bad medical potential) knot tying, gardening. Things that can be of use now, and if things change for the worse, you can fall back onto. Always, add to your skill sets, and your knowledge base, for knowledge is never wasted. (And for the record...the only truly stupid question, is an unasked one.)
