Thanks, chelloveck. This will give me a better idea of where to "plant" my above ground boxes, next spring.

You're welcome. Knowing the plants' light requirements helps a lot...it means that niches, say in understory positions beneath trees can be profitably filled without losing plant vigour and productivity. I know that with some of my container plants, I have had to change their location due to having too much light or too little light for their good health.

The first link was great in that it gave full sun/ partial sun crops & the second was a wealth of info. I had issues with too much light and heat, plus elevation. @chelloveck which plants are you finding to be more sensitive? I find that my beets, spinach and kale just didn't perform very well, same with peppers and tomatoes. Too much sun was the issue.

Comfrey. It's a broad leaf plant that tends to wilt readily if it has too much sun. It's pretty thirsty and seems to do better, at least in my experience in semi shade.

It's not so practical trying to move vegetables that are established in a garden bed, however there are ways of providing sun and heat sensitive plants with protection, particularly in the earlier stages of development.

Use an appropriate density shade cloth to protect plants during days of extreme hot weather.

or establish pioneer plants, such as trellised legumes to help protect your sunlight / heat sensitive plants.
