Sniper, what's the block leave? And you get a paid year vacation? Maybe I'm missing something. Haha.

in the Army, you get 30 days of paid vacation for a full year of duty. Since we are Guard, we either take that leave or they have to pay us at the end. Since my Mob will last for 18 months, the Army would have to pay me for 45 days of active duty. The problem is that they are stingy and don't want to pay you any more money than they have to. So, since I have been activated for five months already, they owe me 12 days. I am going to take it because I would rather see my family than take the money. I will get a mid tour leave of 15 days sometime when I am there and will get to come home then as well. After I return, then they will owe me 15 more days and I will take it also so that I don't have to go back to work any sooner than I have to. That is block leave!

 

Yes, I hear Benning is quite fun. I hear they have a wonderful sandy spot that I'll just love if I get to go there and I'm almost assured that once or twice in my visit I will be fortunate enough to enjoy that sweet spot. Haha. The good part of it will be that I'll be in my environment again, as I am a southern boy. Just hate the cold, even in the south. Though I'll weather it when and where I have to.

Sniper, as for Block Leave, I was waiting on your clarification to make a statement. I didn't know if it was what I had heard before and true to form it wasn't. The paid vacation threw me. The 'Block Leave' that I have heard used in conversations has been a not so good thing. The expression was used by front line Soldiers that loved fighting and dodging the enemy only to be called forth to the Block to do Recruiting. Haha. Thought you were being pressed into action of the desk kind. Good to see it isn't so.

BTW, Good luck getting out of the San Franpsycho, California area. Joining up is one way. I spent almost 2 years In the bay area when I was in the Navy. Psycho is right and that was, e-gads, almost 40 years ago now. Seems like it was just last night in my nightmares. Meds not working like they should again, doc said I should not be doing nightmares on the meds he prescribed. Tell that to the monster in my head.

 

Got a message tonight and it didn't come through today. Maybe tomorrow or next week. It's at NTB (Whatever that is) and is waiting to be okayed. Fingers and everything else are crossed.
