Have had a couple of these and for a cheap lamp they are pretty dependable. I still only depend on more expensive headlamps to keep in my rucks for camping and hunting though.
Interesting. Until you said that, I was happy as a clam with this. What brand do you recommend for your camping?
I have one of these and find that it causes an annoying glare if you're wearing glasses. I have a bunch of headlamps and none of them cause that glare.
I have had great luck with Petzl tikkas, but my favorite for a while has been the Black Diamond storm, waterproof and pretty bright. For caving and night riding I run a Zebra h600.
I can't justify carrying 3. If you could only choose 1, I'm sensing that the Black Diamond is the goto, yes?
Yes, I just keep a light in each pack and rig. I hav'nt had the storm for long maybe 6-8 months or so but no issues so far, the Petzls I have are years old I think one is going on five years of abuse.
I had a Black Diamond Revolt and it is the only piece of electronic equipment I've ever had to blow-up. There was a pop and a hiss. Not sure if it was the batteries blowing or the circuitry on the headlamp. It was hot. I can't depend on something like that so I threw it away. I use this mostly now because I can re-charge it from solar panels in my pack. It's not the brightest headlamp, it just suits my needs better. It can use rechargeable batteries or a power pack. Petzl Tikka 2 Core Headlamp
Me too on the Petzl, i have one i bought in 2008 that has seen much abuse and is still ticking. If i need more light i go to the flashlight.
