I don't believe any Aussies are in the race for POTUS. Aussies don't have a Mason Dixon line, but the Queensland / New South Wales border is a reasonable analogue. New South Welshmen call Victorians Mexicans, because they are South of the NSW Border (The Murray River being the equivalent to the Rio Grande.

I do wonder that Australia is more conservative than America in some respects....no State or Territory has marriage equality laws allowing Gay marriage...nor indeed civil unions under the Australian Federal Marriage Act. The Australian Capital Territory tried legislating to allow for gay marriage, but the Federal Government squashed it like a bug. The USA has 32 States that allow for marriage equality for Gays...and the numbers are increasing.

Phil would be very comfortable with the 100% ban on gay marriage in Australia....also the duck hunting is good. Shotguns may be legally owned, but the State authorities take a dim view of taking wild fowl with a 40mm Bofors! or punt guns.

Punt guns are legal to own, but have not been allowed for waterfowl since "market hunting" was outlawed many many years ago. That kind of full scale slaughter is only allowed in "gun free zones" now.
To the best of my knowledge, waterfowl are lead free shot only. (Locally for sure, and I think nationally) due to lead pollution of waterways.

 

Lead shot is legal for waterfowl hunting here in Australia...open cut coal mining and other mining operations probably contributes more to environmental pollution than the few cartridges of bird shot fired in the direction of suicidal ducks intent on humping decoys.

 

I would agree, but the game warden has other ideas.

 

I understand your situation: different country, different environmental concerns. There are many here who would be happy to limit severely coal seam gas extraction, but corporations and CSG investors with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ have other ideas.
