It would appear that social media 'all in one' sites like Facebook are starting to affect discussion forum activity. It makes sense in a way since most people like to quickly update their group with a quick picture or review of a good burger, etc. I'm curious as to who here uses or has been using more: FB, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and others more than they visit forums. Over the years, we've attempted to integrate forum features with some of the top social media sites and I'm wondering if it's worth continuing to do this. I watch my wife take a picture or video from her phone and 1 swipe and 2 clicks later share it with her entire group on FB. I wonder if we could build that kind of 'ease of interaction' into the Monkey somehow. Maybe work to expand profile pages, timelines and news feeds (to use the FB lingo). I've used Facebook as a generic term for social media in the poll.
I am in full support for added features to make the SM more appealing and interactive, but do not and never will support Facebook integration or direct information sharing with social media sites. It is nice we have this feature available to those who want it and can be disabled by those who do not want to share information with social media. I think a personalized news feed and blog to be great additions, if that's possible with fund limitations and integration issues. I think it would be amazing for every member to have their own news feed so they can link stories and publish content, much like a blog. Maybe they would be the same with only minor differences in options.
Unfortunately, I've used SocialMedia too much. But, i've had fun with it too. I may have joined groups that and liked things, clicked on adverts that are not even in my realm of interest to put a proverbial monkey-wrench in the algorithm. Who the hell even cares about alpaca socks from sustainable sources.
We have some quasi integration now. What I'm really after is a way to make SM as easy to use as my wife uses mobile FB from the park with 1 swipe and 2 clicks. Not looking to further integrate with FB. Maybe trying to mimic that ease of use. Maybe this requires a phone app. I don't know.
The only "social" media I use at all is FB...and that's only because of the band I do work for. Less than a dozen "friends," and absolutely NO pics...and no mobile app for it, either.
I'm using my phone browser now and can easily upload an image but I have to create a thread or find a thread to post in. Login, upload file and finally post. If I want to share a photo to my (nonexistent) FB profile straight from my phones native camera roll, it's 1 click. Visu? SM app?
@melbo, let me get this stego app rolled. I'm even looking at allowing it to post to straight to FB and Twitter LMAO!! Maybe SM has a mobile guru that can code it. I'm a novice at this mobile stuff at the moment. well at least until thanksgiving. Are we in a hurry?
I may be the only monkey that does not use any of the social media, and don't even have a cell phone. I can't, at this stage, even imagine why I might get interested in such modern doodads, if for no other reason than OPSEC. So enhancing the current social media links that exist already is of not much interest chez moi. Whether or not that tends to reduce my ability to participate in various discussions is yet to be determined, I guess.
Not in a hurry If we could create a fully featured app that supported xenforo forums, it would sell for $50+. Maybe even $100 to XF admins. @CraftyMofo is also working on mobile dev.
dude, you can use an emulator like gennymotion or bluestacks and run it out of a desktop machine. Hell, you could even play flappy birds.
Understood @ghrit. You are in a minority though and I'm trying to plan things around future advances. Hard to believe that the first 'real' tablet computer was the iPad 1 that only came out 4 yrs ago.
I'm guessing that it wouldn't diminish anyones ability to access and use the monkey, just give a different method to interact with the site.
by the way, if I have anything to do with the app, I'll do my best to disable the geotagging of any images produced by my application or at least make it appear that they all came from Washington DC.
That is understood, and I'm quite sure it'll be an advantage to you kids. I just don't see any advantage from here, given the givens. I certainly have no objections.
