    Teeth.
Having two crowns done this month, first one is in and had the post and temp for the second one done last evening.
Gosh but I hate the "rubber lips" from Novocain. [tongue]

I went through the freezer, and pulled all the old venison. Much of it freezer burnt by now, and sliced and diced, and marinated, and dried, and turned the lot of what was usable into jerky.
Not the kinds of pieces I would normally use for jerky, so all hand sliced. No way to use the slicer on shanks and shoulders and such. So far, it seems to have been worth the extra effort.

Just thinking about doing that. Do you then run it thru a dehydrator?

Yes. I have an old 2amp no name 5 tray with just a heating element. It works, but is very slow. When I have a large amount to do, I borrow a sunbeam with ten trays, heating element and a fan. Much faster. (The sunbeam comes with 7 trays, I think. I made the mistake of washing them in the dishwasher (which is fine) but did not remove them before the heated dry cycle. Some of them warped badly. I bought a replacement stack of trays, for my buddy's machine, and just tossed the bad ones. (Hence ten racks);)

We went to town and I finally bought a portable generator. It's a Generac 5500/5.5KW model. I figured I needed to break down and get it. I've been putting it off for the last two Winters and it was time. I think it will prove useful, although I'm now going to have to stock more gasoline beyond the usual twenty gallons.

Between it and the wood stove we should do nicely. Although I actually enjoy cooking on the Coleman stove. Our well pump is electric so our water supply depends on the power. I keep water stored and we have a year round creek about thirty feet from the house, so we always have water available. But it's really nice to just turn the tap.

Loss of power is a fairly regular thing here and it really doesn't bother me, but it gets to my wife. So happy wife, happy life.

Got a Phonecall from the Grub Supplier, on my Winter Food Order, today... Ok'ed one substitution, on the Order. It will ship out, on the Barge, leaving Seattle, on Friday, and be here next Thursday. Get that put away, and I am set for the next 18 months..... Now just waiting for Momma to get home. Then life will be "Peachy" again....

Batteries! Dollar Tree has 8 packs AA for a buck. We've been using them for a while for the wireless mice, keyboards, Wii and Xbox controllers, and get a decent lifespan from them so I stocked up on AAA, AA, C and D.

I picked up some .45ACP ammo and a case of 100 12ga. game loads today. We were at Wally World and I found three 50rd. boxes of "Perfecta" .45 ACP 230gr. FMJ for $18.97 a box and swooped them up. I've never heard of the brand before, but they're made in Italy, brass cased and should be fine for practice. In contrast, I paid $26. each for two boxes of Magtech 230gr. FMJ at the LGS. The 12ga. was Winchester "Universal" 7 1/2's for $26.95

It's always a good day when I can pick up gun food.

Pick up a 5 lb bag of rice, 2lbs oatmeal, 2 1lb bottles of propane, and 10 GU energy gel packs. The gel packs are for eating on the run, i mean literally on the run. For years now i have been either using or eventually throwing old food stashes away. Am very interested in starting to repackage things like the rice and oatmeal etc in mylar bags. Back in the old days used to have to prepare for me and my dog but life has crept up on me and now its me, different dog, and five others. If i can get 7 years out of a bag of rice it sure does beat 2 years

From the excellent BePrepared.com: 7 more 5 gal food grade buckets with color coded Gamma Lids according to what food types we store in them. 5 more stackable 5 gal water jugs. Several months worth of powdered milk. Spare bung screw caps and covers for our numerous blue 55 gal water storage drums -- Have 1 stored in each major room of the house and several outside.

4 pickup truckloads of horse manure to cover the next layer of buried decomposing tree logs, trunks and branches in our permaculture raised vegetable beds (Hugelculture beds -- hugelkultur: the ultimate raised garden beds which are now 4 feet tall. Once they are 6 feet tall, it is said on Permies: a big crowd of permaculture goofballs that they don't require watering-irrigation, other the natural rainfall since they act like a 'water sponge.'
