Black Bart & Mr. Smee. BTW- you don't seem upset that someone dumped a couple of kitties at your house. You must be know for being a cat lover.

I'm not sure if someone dumped them or not, they were hiding under a tarp in the yard. We found a couple orphans 2 years ago, and then a stray 'adopted' us...I think there's a feline communications network, and all the ones in our area without humans were told to come to our place.

I've decided until they trust me enough to let me gender them, they shall be named Pirate. The other kitty I caught(there's one still loose), given their attitude problem, I have named Fussybritches. 0701141704.

You can tell Pirate's eye is no good. I was able to look at it better this afternoon, there is an infection, which can be treated, and I will, but I think the damage to the eye is permanent. There's a white splotch on the eyeball. That's not good. However, Pirate can still hear, their ears move whenever I talk.

Okay apparently Pirate is a girl. Checked when I flushed her bad eye out more a little bit ago.

When did cats decide to declare war on me? There weren't just two kittens in our yard, turns out there's FOUR! I have them all locked up now, til I find good homes for them. Pirate's eye is getting better every day, this morning there was no pus when I flushed it out again, and I couldn't tell which of the kitties was her this morning, until she started to close her bad eye again.

Today was first serious picking day for peaches. :) Ended up with 6 1.5 lb freezer packs and 4 1 lb freezer packs. We ran out of ice for doing the blanching, so we'll continue tomorrow with another 10 lbs of peaches. We should do another picking about Wednesday and get as much again as we got today and a final picking towards the end of next week. FINALLY! After 3 years, we have peaches! WOOHOO! LOL Seriously, tho, this is quite a bit of work....and we only have 1 tree. Sweetie and I were talking about in the 40's and 50's about doing things with an orchard..and by hand. Tons of work!

Next picking, we'll do some peach salsa and some canned peaches. This time, we strictly did frozen after blanching and peeling. Absolutely DELICIOUS!!

We ordered online and over the phone from 4 different places this month. 7 flashlights, 1 tarp, some clothes for winter that were kind of pricey for us, but they're high quality and we got some discounts, 2lbs of beeswax, and our garden is doing good, nothing is ready for us to preserve yet, except rhubarb. The salad greens we don't bother preserving, we eat them fresh or give them to the chickens or compost pile. The snow peas, I make sure there's never enough to preserve ;)

    Mmmmm Rhubarb.

Every time I enjoy a slice of rhubarb pie I feel like I'm five years old sittin' in Nana's kitchen.

Boy oh boy, I like rhubarb pie ! [tongue]

6 quarts of veggie soup, 10 pints of Blackberries, several bags of tomatoes in the freezer and 3 more tomorrow. Another gallon of blackberries to process tomorrow also. Freezing a bit of squash and will be canning some late this week. VBS every evening takes a lot of time out of the day. Planting the fall corn this week along with the pole beans a week later between the corn. Tilled the turnip/greens patch area again and will hit it again just before planting time.

Went into town yesterday and stocked up on produce(as I mentioned in Ebola thread). Got cantaloupe, avocados, tomatoes, onions, plums, apricots, pineapple, bell peppers, and cherries, and I plan to preserve some of them. There might have been more, can't remember because it was a LONG day yesterday. Got home to find the well pump for our community water system wasn't working. Turns out a fuse on the transformer got disconnected, and the power company took their sweet time fixing it. We were okay, some of the neighbors weren't though. What gets me, one of the neighbors came up to the water tower to find out what's going on, they had their pickup truck bed full of water storage containers that they were taking to their other property to go fill up. And it wasn't until this morning that I realized they must not have had them filled up in the first place. What is the point of having water storage containers if you wait UNTIL there is an 'emergency' to fill them up?!
