A trash 80 is what I learned to program on, in school. With a magnetic cassette drive for backup.

 

And let's not forget the Commodore PET....

 

Gotcha beat. Late 70's, prior to the release of pretty much any PC, we had a connection to our county's mainframe, on a timeshare connection. You picked up the phone handset, dialed (no touchtone phone for us!) the number, waited for the squealing, then shoved the handset into the modem cradle, so our satellite terminal could "talk" to the mainframe.

Satellite terminal was a combination keyboard and dot matrix printer. No monitor of any type. So you typed in your program, line by line, praying you didn't typo any of it. Once done, you printed it out, and proof read it, then correct any mistakes made. Finally, type in "Run" (good ol' Basic programming language, of course!), and hope the program runs as you meant it to. Printed out the results of the run, which you'd hand in to the teacher, for your grade.

Our first semester teacher was one of our math teachers, as well as one of the varsity football coaches, so you didn't hand in ANYTHING late!!

Dang. 25 years I've been calling it the wrong thing. Hate calling something out only to get called out.

 

Hell my IP address was 3... and my packets were carried by passenger pigeons... we didn't have excel... we used an Abacus and every now and then we would get a "Blue bead of death" and have to hard reboot the d@mn thing....
