The metal is about as thick as the sheet metal on an OLD car body, so range would be a factor.

Got it. .308 Black tips would be a much better choice IMHO. Really close 5.56mm 62gr green tips probably would get it done.

Sounds like a .22lr would be enough. ;)

The Russians during WW2 had a novel solution to dealing with AFVs.....though PETA would definitely not approve!

Well you probably won't like the Israelis either. They used dogs with explosive packs against Palestine's forces in much the same way, except this was anti-personnel not anti-armor. This was in the early days after 1949 or so and they were struggling to stay alive.

Yep green tips work but as been said range could be a factor. You also need to hit them at an angle so as to pierce the diaphragms instead of just going through the can itself.Google up a breakdown of a brake can and you'll see what I'm trying to explain. You want to blow out the "parking" and low air side of it. Just shooting through the service side doesn't disable the vehicle.

did you see my penetration tests from a few years ago? 55gr will go through plate mild steel plate like melted butter at close range.

Distance will be the factor. Take an old steel wheel rim (thicker than most HD brake chambers) out some distance and punch some holes. Or if you got some time, I'll test that too, but it'll be later in the year before i could test it.

It would seem that both green and black tips would penetrate the brake cylinder...what matters is accuracy and bullet placement. A .22lr or .22wmr will penetrate, but range limitations will place the shooter well within the vehicle's armament retaliation range.

Rather than sniping at close range with .22lr, I'm wondering what effect a 12g firing a volley of slugs and buckshot would have on the brake can?

It seems to me, that there are other ways of dealing with an MRAP.

Desperate circumstances have sometimes required desperate measures...I suspect that at times, Russian soldiers would rather have eaten the anti-tank dogs than have blown them up.

Potholes this year are the worst I've ever seen in my driving career.
Seen more peeps on the side of the road with blown tires, bent rims and even worse, destroyed suspension due to our decaying infrastructure.

I hate to say this because of how I feel about dogs, but they probably did go over and pick up pieces to eat.

I was thinking along that line as well. Once they survived the assault, food was very high on that list for survival and they would go scavenge remains right away.

Cooking and eating a whole dog in the safety of one's own foxhole is more energy efficient and less dangerous than scavenging minced dog meat fragments over the exposed battlefield while people are shooting at you.

My sympathies are for the dogs, but humans in the final analysis tend to be pragmatic when it comes down to their own survival, and humans will often do what humans will, for the sake of humans, even if at the expense of non-humans.

That is exactly why I like dogs better then most humans.
