First let me say hi to all my fellow North Cackalakies...then to all the other fellow survivalist, preppers, offgridders here on the monkey...my name is Mike and I live currently in the Raleigh area. I recently within the last year started really researching the lifestyle and some of what its about. I just actually started aquiring certain items. Since i was in the Army for a few years, i decided to start with what i know..."weapons". So i just picked up my first sets of defensive knives. Have a few more coming in this week...Of course i do day dream about the perfect offgrid living plot of land also. All in all this will with all hope in mind lead to a complete offgrid living situation within a few years. As a newbie in the lifestyle im still a baby in a grownup world even at 36 yrs old haha. So any info or mentoring i can pick up along the way to insure success will be retained and appreciated. I look forward to gettin to know you an talking to you.
Welcome to the Monkey Mike!! I spent 7 years out at Fayetnam and miss NC from time to time. I recently sold my old place out in Hope Mills after renting it out for many years. Grab a branch and take a long look around. There is a ton of information about any subject you want to dive into to, learn and discover. There are many folks here that are smart as a whip on various subjects so never worry about asking a question, we are all here to learn and be better prepared. YD

Roughly the center third of the state. Geography of North Carolina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
yeah but actually there are several supposed reasons for the term...one theory for the term is because before the American Civil War...North Carolina was the leading export of tar and terpentine...in which members of the British Fleet would paint the bottoms of wooden ships to seal them from leaking...henceforth those painting would get tar covered heels...the other theory is that soldiers poured tar into the tar river to keep British soldiers from crossing the river...again getting tar on their feet...another explaination of the term is that during the civil war, Gen. Robert E. Lee placed the name on North Carolina soldiers because they refused to give up...as in they would not retreat....but either of the 3 sound good reasons i guess....sorry i just got off work and i ramble when im half asleep
